minor 32mb update for dinc2 rolling out now 4.08.605.3 build

I'm praying that this update fixes the reception issues.

I don't think that is something a software update can fix. It will have to be a hardware fix, a new & improved battery door (with better antennas) seems to be the only answer to that problem.

Word is that the new radio included in the update does indeed improve reception, by as much as 20 dBm by some accounts. I hadn't really checked, but I did notice reception in a building across the street from my office where it has been very sketchy in the past.

We'll see.....

EDIT: The real question is, why didn't VZW add that to the release notes? Seems like neither they, nor HTC, wanted to admit a reception issue in the first place.

Mine still comes up "download failed" error, any ideas?

Have a nice day,

I get the same thing. I have tried multiple times. I have restarted the phone, changed from 3G to wifi, changed towers and I still get the download failed message. FYI I have never been rooted.

Anybody have any ideas?

Just keep trying. This problem is usually due to the Verizon server. If you still cannot get the update by tomorrow you may need to take it in to your Verizon store and have them update it for you.

Verizon has already admitted there is a problem and that HTC is working on it..

HTC are the ones that won't say anything about it.. Nothing but crickets from them..

Has anyone who was getting this message keep trying and eventually be able to get the update? I've tried a bunch of times with no luck.

Nope. I have tried several times a day for 3 days now with the same failures. I have uninstalled some apps that I thought might be a culprit and, again, no luck.

I have to say, after a couple of days with 2.3.4 I do think my reception is improved. Further testing is required, however, before a definitive conclusion is made.

So far I'm not impressed with the 2.3.4 update. Other than the new Market app my phone is the same now as it was before the update.

One thing I just noticed which I think is new...

Previously, if my phone was connected to wifi, cellular data would not work, even if the wifi network was not providing any internet connection. This would generally rear its ugly head when in a store/restaurant/etc that offered a wifi network that needed an acceptance of terms once you opened your browser. Until you did that, you got no data from anywhere. I was just in McDonalds and didn't bother to open the browser and accept their terms (I usually do, but was only there for 5 minutes, didn't seem worth the trouble), but still received emails.

I'll need to play around some more and see if that is really changed with this release.

I too receive the "Download Failed" error. From what I can tell, there are many people who are receiving this same issue. I would say that it is probably a server issue and will be resolved eventually, though what date is tied to "eventually" is likely never to be known.

I can say that with a search across multiple sites, I have found that there are much, much more than just a few people with this issue. That tells me that it is definitely NOT a hardware or phone specific issue.

I would strongly suggest NOT taking drastic measures, such as factory resets, just for something like this.

I plan to simply wait. I don't see anything except for the updated market and, possibly, an updated radio that make me want to update right away. Plus, it has been confirmed that this update is patching the known exploit for s-off and root and I plan to root at some point.

my DL went through just fine. Its updating right now. Hopefully this will fix the email issue I've had. The reception bars thing is annoying, but I usually ignore it anyways. I've been able to make calls and connect just fine even though it shows no bars. I just roll with it I guess, lol.

I live in michigan if it helps, maybe the ny area servers are having issues with the DL traffic? DUnno...

so it patched. Reception seems a little stronger, though like I said before, didn't have many issues with actually making or getting calls. I did not get the new market though. I'm kinda jealous, I have customers bringing in crappy droid x's and other older phones that have the new market and I still have the old one, lol. But it all works the same anyways right?

Why not just download the file and install it manually?

i got the market update a few hours later. it looks pretty but I still like the old one better. Find that I'm spending less time looking at the market now than I did before, but honestly haven't spent a lot of time exploring it either.

I went to software update, clicked check. It said update available. I clicked download. I clicked status and it showed dowload failed. When I drag down my notification bar, it showed the update as ready to install. So I checked my reception before and after and there was absolutly no change. I had the old market and now it doesn't work. No market at all. Just closes as soon as I try to open. I have the new market saved on my sd card. I never reinstalled after my last factory reset.

what does your software version show? After the update it should be 2.3.4

If its not that version the update didn't apply, maybe try pulling the battery and try dling again? There were a couple guys who said they had issues with the update, fortunately, I was not one of them.

Was your phone rooted before the update? That may have something to do with any issues as mine was not rooted.

Yes it is up to date 2.3.4 not rooted

I've been trying the past few days and it's still giving me download failed error. I read it could be Verizon server issue. So I'll just wait then. I am in S. Cal area if that makes any difference.
