Root Miui help...lost apps??

Mcoupe

Newbie
Flashed a rom for the first time last week. I figured I would give Miui a try. I did all the backups (I guess...) and the rom flashed fine.

I believe I made a few mistakes and was hoping you guys could help out.

I use Titanium Backup and it backups up everything twice a week, and I thought this is all I would need.

After I flashed the Miui rom, I lost all my apps. So I did some searching, went to the market and hit menu and it only lists 2 apps, Beautiful Widgets, and Widget locker.

So I opened File Explorer in Miui....then SD card....I have a file called ApplistBackup, but cant seem to open it.

I also opened (on the sd card) Titanium Backup (which has 360 files?) and I see a bunch of my old apps and more. But I dont know how to open/install all my old apps. Say I click on Angry Birds, I get a menu that says....Select file type-text-Audio-Video-Image.

I cant even find my version of Rom Manager. I have a file on my sd card called ClockworkMod.

I guess I never sync'ed my apps with my google account. Is this what I should have done? I was able to get all my Contacts back and working.

And finally I rooted my phone about 1 year ago, and have never done another OTA update since, is this hurting me.

Thanks guys for any help! ;)

Ok, I think I have it. I went and downloaded Busybox from the market, and then downloaded titanium backup. I was able to open TB and restore some of my apps.

Is there a better way?

Should I sync all my apps, use cloud...?

If you buy the pro version of titanium you can do batch restore of your apps.

This is probably the best way to accomplish what you want. You have to restore your apps with titanium because once you wipe your phone the market no longer knows which apps you have, because they are no longer installed on your phone.

yeah, the pro version of titanium backup doesn't cost much and is really handy when you flash roms.

Using batch mode is quick and you can start it then pick through the ones you DON'T want to restore, and uncheck them.

Make sure you don't restore anything in red writing to a different rom because they are system apps and might mess the rom.

Great, thanks guys. I will upgrade to the pro version.

Granite1 it was actually a post by u that I found in a search that pointed me in the right direction.

I will stay away from the red labled apps, thanks I may have screwed that up.

Will the pro version carry over everytime I flash a rom?

Should I make a nand backup of my current miui.us rom if I want to try another one?

Man, my battery life sucked so bad with the stock rom and kernel.

Thanks

anytime you are gonna make changes to your phone you should always make a nandroid backup. just remember that nandroid backups are your friend. if you do not like the rom you can always just restore the previous nandroid backup.

one thing though, i would not recommend that you use rom manager for anything. it is way to buggy and can cause more problems then it is worth. do everything in recovery. also on the same note i would also recommend that you switch recoveries to amon ra 2.3. it is a waaaay better recovery then clockwork mod. plus with clockwork mod you can't flash certain things. please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. there is a section for switching recoveries just follow directions there.

Thanks. I will not use rom manager to backup anymore. My first two backups I did in recovery, and will continue to do so in the future.

Is there any need for me to unroot and update to GB and update my radios since I haven't in almost a year. Things seem to be running fine now with miui.us.

Thanks

never accept an ota while you are rooted. it could unroot you, close the previous exploit, or unroot you and close the exploit (if that is the case then you will have to wait for the devs to find another exploit).

to get your radios updated here:
[ Radios ][ 9-5 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers
use the radio combo which is the first one.

but before you do please read this:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...before-you-flash-your-radios-read-thread.html

do not get alarmed by all the warnings and such. just wanted to let you now what could happen. and if you backup your wimax keys then you should be fine.

just make sure that you have plenty of battery and do not forever any reason PULL OUT THE BATTERY while it is installing that is a sure way of bricking your phone.
