Root MIUI Roms

Thanks both :)

Its like a race between people on this forum :p

Everyone loves to help here :)

The difference between AF and XDA is, on XDA there is a lot of arguments between developers, like the huge argument last week between the virtuous team and the HoneySense team (which I was involved in lol), but here on AF you rarely, if ever, see that, it's one big helpful community :)

Also, on XDA, Mods think they are better than everyone else and abuse their powers, here on AF, Mods treat everyone as equals. Which is something I respect deeply as I don't like people who look down on other people just because they can do something that others can't

Sorry got a bit carried away lol :D

Couldn't have said it better myself!

And who did you side with in the argument?! :P

I sided with the HoneySense team, because although I think the Virtuous team are awesome and great at what they do, I believe that they were in the wrong. They had the HoneyUnity ROM took down because they were using the Virtuous ROM as a base without being given permission, but I don't believe they should have been able to do that because the ROM was originally created by Google and HTC, and HTC are closed source, and the Virtuous team did not get permission from HTC. They still credited the Virtuous team, so I didn't see the problem.

Although, now I believe I wasted my time, I fought with them for 7 hours and they ended up dropping HoneyUnity after saying they wouldn't give up, so there's 7 hours of my life gone to waste lol

But the HoneySence team (which now includes mikey1986 & capychimp) have created a new ROM (with their own base ported from HTC Sensation) called Honey3D. I flashed it and its got to be the fastest ROM I have ever used! It really is incredibly fast.

On the other hand, I believe that Honey3D wouldn't have been made if the fight didn't happen lol

EDIT: Honey3D kernel doesn't support Call Recording, and I don't like the current theme, I was also missing MIUI so gone back to MIUI now lol. There is a MIUI update out tomorrow too :)

i mean, yeah, 7 hours of your life gone... but you were fighting for what you believed in so it wasnt a complete waste!

what do you think will be included in the MIUI update tomorrow? i had to download the one from MIUI.us because the other one still had some chinese in there :( lol!

Honey3D is awesome if you do not flash the theme. It is stock with a few changes. But it is extremely fast. The theme is too dark, its more black than blue, and if you use a 2-way call recording app, it is not supported with their kernal, and I tried flashing LordMod kernel but it wouldn't boot. They have said to try flashing LeeDroids kernel, but hasnt been confirmed working yet. Also, they said they worked hard on making battery last long with this ROM, but I had only been using it for a couple of hours, hardly doing anything, and went from 100% to 65%

The MIUI update tomorrow only has a few minor changes....

  • New Miren Browser with tabbed support for web site browsing (Miren is made by Xiaomi.com)
  • AppShare has a new updated market category system allowing rating and recommendation / sharing with friends
  • New Access control settings, control password security, app visibility, open app permissions, say goodbye to hiding icons in folders, the new access control settings make it global

They do updated every week :) (that's something I love about MIUI lol) and the MIUI backup app restores any newer version exactly the same as you had it previously (apps, settings, themes, etc)

You could have installed LauncherPro and you would have an app drawer, I tested it (as I have paid version) but I prefer MIUI launcher

as we speak im backing up CM7 and gonna install MIUI again to give it a chance when im not tired!

and what exactly is the MIUI launcher? just the homescreen?

i mean i really do like the look and feel of the app, its good to see something completely original imo!

Well I've switched back to CM7 for now. There are quite a few things I like about MIUI but I think I need more free time to play about with it first :p

I'm switching back to Sense, for one reason...

I use an app called iMediashare, alot, and it isn't compatible with MIUI :(

i may swing back to leedroid just to have sense for a while, but CM7 has really grown on me!

I think the main hurdle with CM7 for me was replacing all the built in features of Sense/MIUI with 3rd party apps.

But then when I go back to Sense/MIUI, I end up using those replacement apps anyway :p

Well cubz... This ROM is quick as hell!

Only one downside! On the battery icon in the statusbar, there isn't a percentage :( shame!
