Miui Vs. All?

Dangry

Newbie
Riddle me this...... Why are other ROMs not as responsive or fast as Miui? What is it about them that makes them run like they do? I just switched back to a regular sense ROM (because that's what I do, can't help myself) but I can't help but notice how much slower they all seem now. I could care less about quadrant scores and such because when it comes down to it you should be able to tell if its fast from use. Any way, am I alone here or is Miui just got it down as far as operation/general use goes?

I wish they could add the "good" sense elements (the Facebook and social apps sync to contacts was a lil bit hosed) to Miui then I would think it "perfect".

I think I'm going to give the Vanilla roms a shot. I have been looking for something that fits for me but so far I haven't been able to settle in on any one rom in particular. Been hearing a lot about DeFrost so might give that a shot. I'm using MoDaCo R9 right now and it seems pretty smooth plus it has all the sense stuff I like and that's what drove me to get the desire in the first place.

Any input on a good Vanilla rom?

i recently moved to miui and im happy now i made a makeshift app drawer (making a folder called apps and putting it in the launcher bar.
basically its faster than stock sense roms because its based on aosp and all the crap is not there.
they have some clever chinese devs that know how to "really" code and it pays off.
I really like the rom and better still its compatible with all the various aosp kernels too.

it does better quadrant scores than sense and is "actually" faster
i dont think it will be as fast as oxygen though

EDIT:
i thought i would miss the facebook contact sync but i dont, i like the clean look it has now
the messaging app is so good

i feel like if you use launcher pro with vanilla roms theyre just as snappy...
when i use MIUI i feel like im using an iPhone... :(

it feels like a desire again when you do what i did
i removed it and put leedroid back on before i went back again and gave it more of a chance

Yeah that Oxygen rom looks very bare bones speedy. I'm not the most tech savvy guy, I have a very basic knowledge but I know when I get a rom that runs well. All the different Kernels, Radios, s-on and s-off's get to be a little much so I try not to monkey around too much if I can help it. I'll probably flash a vanilla rom tonight but I do like the htc bells and whistles, they seem to make things a bit easier but maybe I just don't know any better yet ;)
Thanks for all the replies peoples!

EDIT: It seems like the sense-less roms don't get much love from the devs in the way of updates? The CyanogenMod is the only one that has been updated recently....

Hers a quick question while I'm here.... I have noticed that some roms are without certain apps and they suggest that you dl them separately and flash them instead of getting them from the market... And they have different versions of the market sometimes as well. Why is that?
It makes me nervous about getting apps from market. Bonus for me because I can't be a noobie forever...... I hope. lol
Thanks again

defrost is updated quite regularly, i'm actually running it again, leedroid was too slow for my likings :P

i find its easier to theme defrost and vanilla roms and what not.

....and rasta what do you mean it feels like a desire again? did you go to leedroid and then back to MIUI?

i just hate how even the settings almost looks identical to an iphone. :(

I just flashed Oxygen and it is pretty schmoooove IMO. I'm sure I'll tire of it shortly though and then I'll flash defrost most likely. Does defrost flash with a2sd/+?

tbh i dont care about settings and whether it looks like iphone settings, tbh the settings layout of iphone is actually its only strong point

yes i am on miui after going back to leedroid and then coming back again

The thing that did annoy me about miui was the removal of the app drawer so all apps were spammed on your home.
Miui has a wicked folder and home management system so i realised i could create a folder for Apps and put that on my quickbar at the bottom so now i have an app draw.
the widget, icon and screen management is far superior to any rom i have currently used but yet its still fast as hell (not just on quadrant but in real use)

this is using vorkernal on demand @ 1152

2nd of december, im thinking about going back to stock kernel for miui though
since i put vork on it does some wierd shit.
it does bootloop if connected to pc via usb when booting then messes up the audio

not a great

Try the older one first though, its faster and seemed to work fine for me. Just maybe it also doesn't have your weird shit issue..

I've been tempted by the MIUI but don't know if I like the UI...and the fact there are multiple versions of it doesn't help either...

Which is a definite English language version?

the one im on is definate full english
emiui 12.3f2 (he will update it to the latest miui build in the new year)
you can find it on the 12.11 miui thread

the standard ui is iphone but you can quickly change that and everything flows really smoothly.
you can also get skins for it and apply them while booted into the rom

Yeah found it and flashed, really quick but have a few issues...

1. Gmail contacts don't appear in the dialer but do under contacts
2. I can't remove apps from the Homescreen. Is this due to there being no app drawer per se?
3. Market (2.2.6) FCs each time I open it

dont use 2.2.6 its buggy and doesnt work with this build yet (this is 2.2.1 not 2.2)

as for the app drawer, do as i did and make one (look at my screenshot)
you just need to add a folder from the widgets menu then put all the apps in it then attach it to the launcher.

i dont know what you mean about gmail contacts in dialer
i thought the gmail contacts were the normal phone contacts therefore if you press dialer and contacts its the same.
the ones you see in the dialer are recent calls, it doesnt display all the contacts there

1. Yeah, reverted back to 2.1.2 now
2. Might do that but tbh I've moved the apps I want to my default home screen and using FancyWidget for clock/weather so I'm happ enough
3. I assumed the dialer would be like the Sense one with all contacts appearing underneath the dial pad. Actual contacts are all there and sync with Facebook so it's all good. Seriously fast ROM

Another minor gripe - auto brightness just isn't as quick to adjust as Sense-based ROMs are...shame really as it's the one thing annoying me

do you have manual adjust or auto adjust?

i do it manually by pulling down the notification bar and using the quick buttons in there

EDIT: the contact behaviour is still the same as sense though when in dialer, if you start using the dialer to short dial letters it will bring up the contact that relate to the number (letters) pressed

It's on auto adjust, may have to set it to a level. I'm just used to it being quicker on Sense ROMs

Think I'm gonna be staying on this ROM for a while yet, though

ive never used auto adjust so i dont know how fast it is.
the rom itself once you get used to it is a nice change

like i said on another thread I couldnt go to vanilla, ive come from a samsung galaxy1 which is vanilla and i spent a year with it.
sense is ok but i got bored of it
Miui ticks the boxes as something different and does it very well.
while it is iphonesque i think its good to remove the thoughts about the clear influence of the rom and use it for what it is.
a good stable goodlooking fast and functional rom
it does IOS better than ios imo. only thing missing is a decent gpu for the desire. iphone4's latest games look like ps2
