Root MIUI - Working Data & SMS. . .

I've heard so many good things about Xoom's kernel, but I couldn't get it stable.

I dont know why my phone doesn't like any kernel's other than Imo's. I can't even touch the voltages I can run Imo's at with other kernel's. I dont know what the deal is..

I've been getting great life on Zoom kernel. I literally didn't move off 31% early for 5 hours. I'm not fabricating that either, literally 5 hours, and I was using the phone a good amount too. Once this kernel settles in I expect big things

What am I missing on this post? The kernel stopped with your battery at 31% for 5 hours? I hope this was for a calibration

Huh? It simply means my battery life didn't go down for 5 hours

edit: I just reread my post, don't know why that "early" is after 31%. That is a weird typo that I don't remember typing. Strange

Damn that's impressive. I'll probably flash it in a few days or so when I have time. I'm just wary of these early versions working data+sms.

From sounds of it most of you will be making this your daily driver then?

This is definitely my daily driver. MIUI will not be coming off my phone unless I decided not to get the Nexus and CM9 becomes available

Now take that with a grain of salt, this release was pushed about 24hrs ago. Add in the updates seem to be coming fast and furious, about to post the 2nd update already. Having time to calibrate and let the kernel settle is going to be difficult until things slow down.

With the updates rolling out so fast do I need to do a data/cache/dalvik wipe each time or just install over top of the old release and keep going?

Cache and dalvik should be fine. Maybe when there's a major update it would be wise to start fresh and sometimes that's not even needed.

Worm I have to ask, where did you find those settings in that screenshot?

Edit: Found them. I really need to learn to look everywhere before asking questions!

With MIUI backup, wiping is not that big of a deal. It saves your homescreen layouts, theme setup, system settings, and all of your apps. And it is faster than a nandroid. I think I am going to just use it, occasionally make fall back nandroids, and wipe every time.

Edit:

Something else, in case you have not read it elsewhere and are a newb like me...you can use the Chinese themes. Just make sure that the font is not replaced--scroll down on the theme screen and there are a bunch of checkboxes. The only issue is that unless you can read Chinese, you cannot tell anyone what the theme you are running is called, lol.

If anyone finds a way to hide your Status Bar on the lockscreen, let me know, please!!

You can't hide it, nor can you add any widgets to MIUI lock screen. There are so many lock screen options that it isn't a big deal, IMO.

edit: I'm noticing a number of MIUI LS's have an option to d/l a "no status bar version" Probably the best you're going to get

So, I don't have an icon for MIUI Backup. I found it and used it through Titanium Backup, but I've never had an icon for it through both the initial release and the upgrade. Do you guys have an icon for MIUI backup?

Yes...it was in the "Tools" folder for me for all three releases. Try rebooting...the OP on rootz said to reboot if apps are missing.

Thanks Ibrick, I was already planning to restore to Liquid because I couldn't get the center clock. Having issues with MIUI themes and SPB launcher not wanting to recognize the different png files for app icons, already ninjamorphed the browser icon. I really don't like the stock MIUI launcher and I am not sold on MIUI at this point.

Try a different launcher, yeahha. I despised the stock launcher. I was so unhappy with it I was about to restore Liquid and write MIUI off forever, then I loaded LP+ and it was love at first swipe

I am using SPB now and it is working great but it is causing theme icons for system apps to be glitchy, browser and messaging have the stock icons when they shouldn't. I will give it a few more days to see if it grows on me otherwise I am going back to liquid

 I wouldn't give up on a ROM because a few icons aren't switching, I would load a theme and forget about my craptastic icons, lol, but to each their own

Trying to get the ICS theme to work. I may just go in and theme the stock icons tonight if I get a chance
