Root MIUI - Working Data & SMS. . .

Should not matter. For CWM, make sure you have the latest. If you use CWM and get stuck at the splash, try another recovery or updating CWM. I am experimenting with RZ. Have not flashed a ROM yet, but man, backups are fast.

Yeah ok. I noticed backups were kinda slow on CWR.

I do have an issue. I have found the answer to most of my problems but I can not figure this one out. Every time I try to run back up assistant the phone restarts. I can not get my contacts. Kindle also opens but soon force closes. Other than that, It is cool. I like it!

I found a post somewhere that was like my issue. It seems like Verizon Back up assistant is an issue for others also. All you can do for now is export your contacts, via Verizon site. Import them to Google and sync that way. Maybe most know this. I didnt.

Miui has a real good back up program built in to it. Look in the tools folder. It works better than titanium. Try it out. I know I love it.

My Backup is a sense ONLY app. it, and any other Verizon app, can not be used on an AOSP ROM. The steps you listed are correct for getting your contacts into Google. A word of advice, even if you go back to sense, ditch My Backup and just let Google restore your contacts.

Thanks, i will take advise. Does anyone know why kindle force closes whenever i turn a page?

I don't use it, so I'm not sure. You could try menu>settings>applications>manage applications Find the Kindle app and clear data. That usually works for me when apps are acting up, the downfall is if data isn't stored in the cloud you will lose it all. I assume Kindle has a log in screen? If it does you should be all set

Can't find a link on how to use MIUI Backup. I want to upgrade from 1.11.17 to 1.11.18. Some post say don't wipe data, cache, etc, some say do wipe. After flash, is that when I use MIUI Backup App? I want to keep home screen and app positions where they are now.

Thanks anyone.

Thanks I will try that later today. How about pictures in text messages. I can not send one or receive one. I tried freezing the stock app and use Handcent and tried freezing Handcent to use stock. No luck. Is this a known problem?

Yes. SMS works but MMS does not for now.

It's like tiB, make a backup before you have to wipe data.

Thank you for posting this. I am definitely new to the world of MIUI, but am so glad I read this thread. The rom is 99 percent smooth as butter, and what isn't (MMS - have always used third-party anyway) is no huge loss. And I am so shocked and totally knocking on wood right now, but this is the first rom in a LONG time that actually plays the right ringtones when people call me.

My battery life is improved by at least 20 percent. I was very impressed at noon when I looked down and saw how much was left on the bar! Im usually giving it a charge!

Hmm. I try to move the radio to the root yet it comes up with an error that says

java.io.FileNotFoundException:/PG05IMG.zip(Read-only file system). I go to Root Explorer to change permissions but what I check and press ok, it says Permissions cannot be changed....I am confused... I am using Astro too...still not getting what I am doing wrong :/

EDIT: Hmm, so I mounted SD as R/W in Root Explorer yet when I still try to move it to root. Which in Astro would just be a folder icon/ in the top bar right? or would it be mnt?. It still gives me the error : "java.io.FileNotFoundException:/PG05IMG.zip (Permission denied)....

Still not understanding what's wrong...

I just connect to my computer and then locate the file and cut and paste in the root location.

New GB MIUI and ICS are out. I'm on ICS 3.0 and the Themes app FCing has been fixed and audio isn't as bad as it was. Audio still isn't great, but if you have a good collection in FLAC or 320 you should be fine.

Yeah 3.0 is definitely a lot more polished. No more random FC's popping up occasionally.

Seems a little smoother and snappier as well.

Since were on ICS talk, if anyone hasn't tried it yet, download the ICS keyboard. Really similar to GB, but way cooler.

My only beef with the ICS keyboard is there are no arrows! I use kb arrows daily. Much improved over the GB, but leaving that out was a HUGE mistake, IMO. At least the GB keyboard you could long swipe up on space bar to enable arrows. Back on SwiftKey X (awesome kb, btw)

I liked MIUI a lot, but I love CM based things too much. Liquid 3.2 is smooth. Plus I really meed MMS to work. It was a fun two weeks, MIUI

Haha, sorry, had to ;)

I hate the arrows so probably why I never even noticed the ICS keyboard doesn't have them.

Swift key is alright, the predicions are almost spot on, but I hated the auto correction of my typing. I kept correcting the corrections. The ICS keyboard seems to be a lot more accurate with the auto correction for my style. Which relies on auto correction quite a bit.. :)

I tried flashing Zoom kernel on 4.0 and couldn't get past the splash screen.

Anyone running this combo currently?

I'm running the Zoom kernel with 4.0, and it booted and is working just fine. Maybe another cache wipe is in order, or perhaps a superwipe?

damn.. tried everything. Full wipe, deleted all the Lean kernel files, and disabled zram prior to flashing. Still no go.

I think I had this same problem the last time I tried to flash Zoom.. I really don't want to re flash the ROM just to see if it works..

Maybe ill wait till Xoom finishes the newer version he's working on right now and try again.

For what it's worth. when MIUI first dropped I ran Zoom kernel for the first 2 weeks. Since I always favored Imoseyon's kernels on CM based builds I decided to roll with 5.1.0 a few weeks ago. I get better life with Imos' than I did with Zoom. They are both fantastic kernels, but the nod goes to Imos', IMO
