MLB 2022

Everyone having their own broadcast channels is getting out of control. It's really absurd. Baseball blackouts we're always terrible and a major annoyance but now there are 30 additional channels claiming rights to games. Apple, YouTube, ESPN, ESPN+, MLB.TV, (which I do use for Boston games here in NY), Amazon...
Stop the madness!

Not subscribing to the MLB package on Directv this season has me struggling to find the games I want to watch. I don't remember it being so difficult to watch the games. What a bummer!!!

i get normal games, but this is Jackie Robinson Day!!!!!i can understand maybe some other Friday game, but one of the most celebrated baseball player.....and it is exclusive to only A$$le is utterly ridiculous. they are supposedly allowing people to download apple tv and people can watch it for free. they just want people to download the app. i am pissed that the Dodgers even allowed this. sh!tltle must have spent a lot of money to have this day exclusive to them only.

this would have been my first day of seeing Freddie Freeman in a Dodger uniform. i guess it will have to be tomorrow as i have no plans of downloading that crap!!!!!!!

I got to watch my Royals lose. At least it was aired on my local sports network. I would have been upset if I had to dnld an crapple app to watch it. It's bad enough to watch them lose on my regular channel.

After falling behind by four runs, (bored) I read up on the PitchCom device being used this year. I was surprised that not only the pitcher and catcher can hear the signs being called from the nine button option keypad the catcher is wearing, but up to three additional players can wear the receiving device as well. Typically, the second baseman, shortstop, and center fielder are the players with the receivers but it can be anyone on the field. I was also entertained by the technology being used. The receivers are part of the hatband and the signals are received in either English or Spanish and is heard through the bone structure of the skull and not through the eardrum. This gives the players the signals without interrupting their ability to hear the sounds of the game. Audiologist use this technique and others when doing a hearing test. I never considered another use for the tech. Pretty cool. I do think the use of the PitchCom might be speeding the game up a bit. At least it eliminates that infield conference to change signals when the opposing team gets a runner on second. I'm a fan of the PitchCom. What's your take on the new tech?

Interesting. I hadn't really read about it in any detail yet, pretty cool. If it cuts down on full team conferences/consults/mound visits after every second pitch I'm good with it. They really were totally out of control with that.

I'm with you. The game is slow paced as is, it needs nothing more to slow it down. Between all of the mound visits and call reviews the games drag on and on. I love baseball but it has evolved to be as exciting as watching golf. Back in the day, you had your starter, maybe a reliever, and a closer at most. Now the pitching staff has more members than the teams I played on as a kid. A call was a call be it right or wrong. You didn't step out of the box to adjust your gear after every pitch. A pitcher didn't wave off sign after sign. It's almost boring... and I love baseball.

at least now the Houston cheaters can't steal signs anymore:mad::thumbsupdroid::mad::thumbsupdroid:
If it's being transmitted to center field, it has the range to reach the opponents dugout. Who's to say the next cheat won't be to receive the opponents signals? I've been waiting for this to be employed in the NFL. Not that any team cheats.... no way.

I actually like the reviews, they do cut out the ump bias/revenge whatever - and it was there for sure. I really do miss the epic manager/ump fights though, great fun to watch!
Agree on the 17 pitchers per game, the mandatory 3 batter rule has helped that a lot. And right, do you really have to tighten and spit on the batting glove after every pitch lolol, c'mon now, they don't need to be sopping wet (looking at you Xander!). MLB is trying to fix it, stumbling and off track sometimes but trying-ish.

I like the reviews as well. We've all seen games where our team got on the wrong side of the blue. But, it does slow the game down somewhat. I also agree that MLB is painfully aware of the speed of the game and are trying their best to keep it entertaining. I guess the minor leagues are using a pitch clock this year. I read that on an average games were shortened by 20 minutes. The NBC tournament held in Wichita all of these years has used the pitch clock for a long time now. I like it and I don't. It does speed up the games but removes some of the personality of the game.

I grabbed this from the net:
The rule states the pitcher has 14 seconds to deliver the pitch, 18 seconds with a man on base. The batter must keep at least one foot in the batter’s box and be be ready to hit with 9 second left on the clock. Pitchers are assessed a ball and batters are assessed a strike if they fail to comply
The byline of the article sited reads: MLB Implementation on track for 2023 season

It will speed up the game for sure but I don't know how well it will be received by baseball purists.
