I signed the petition, but I really doubt it will even be seen by anyone with any power in the matter at Motorola. It's a large company, there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get this kind of thing done, assuming they even care to get it done.
If anything, I would guess Google might be more recipient to something like this. Google is all about open source and encouraging Android development. Since they now own Motorola Mobility, they might be bothered enough by this to actually release the code (or tell Motorola to do it).

Most likely Motorola does not own the rights to the driver source codes, and they won't able to release them.
