Motorola releases open-source portions of the Droid X source code

with root you can remove some of the system apps, but you have to be careful. The system depends on some of them. As for "removing blur" You are probably thinking along the lines of installing a custom ROM. Unfortunately this releasing of the source code(atleast a part of it) won't really help with that. What we need is a way to by pass the bootloader encryption to install a custom recovery image and a way to sign the roms so they can be flashed to the phone.

What exactly do people mean when they say that a bootloader or whatever is "signed"? Is that like some kind of password?

It means that only motorola roms will work for it any others cause the phone to stay in recovery mode until you send your phone to motorola and they have the software to fix it
