Root MotoTorch LED flashlight app not working...

I do believe that with the changes in froyo, it means that my app wont be able to be used at the same time as the camera. But since using the flash with video is added by default now, maybe it won't be too big of an issue.

However, I think the light will be as bright as it can be.

Eclipsed, I figured out something.

The newer build of FroYo, FRF57, without a theme applied, allows MotoTorch to work. However, after applying Fabolous' NexFro 1.0.1 theme it breaks again.

So it's the theme that is/was broken(don't keep up with the rooted scene)? But I guess there is no way of knowing if the official Motorola 2.2 version will break it or not.

Not yet - depending upon the cause, Motorola's final release could, in fact, break MotoTorch.

We'll have to wait and see.

Might be an interesting test for me to try out - I know it works for me on FRF57, and if it works just as well as in this one then we're gonna have to work with these folks who are having issues.

Not sure if anyone has tried "TeslaLED Flashlight NexusDroid".

It's the only one that I can get to work with my NexFro 1.0.1.

It has a widget, strobe and Morse Code too.

Yeah tesla seems to be the only one working with NexFro, it does turn on the camera but hides it and allows you to switch apps.

For now. I still really think it has to do with the build.prop fix used to fix the market.

I am sticking with MotoTorch regardless - I like it and it just works, until this issue popped up - and eclipsed was right here in the forums as soon as issues were reported. That's customer service for ya.

Oh, I hear ya. I even donated before emailing the dev. (The email which also included the link to this thread.) ;)

No more force close, but doesn't work. Please keep trying! =)

I'm using the video camera app and switching the light on for now, but hope to get my torch back soon.

Edit FYI: 2.2 Nexfro Rom with P3 kernel

I just put out an update that should fix the issue with 2.2. Let me know if you have any problems.

Just updated. Working great with stock 2.2 (second update)! Thanks so much, we really appreciate the development. I use this app all the time when I'm trying to find something in the bedroom in the dark without waking up the fiance with the light! :D

I'm really starting to think themes for froyo are causing all these problems (maps, market, certain apps, battery life functionality). As much as I love having a slick theme, I think I'm going to hold out for a little longer.

This update ( 3.1 ) actually broke my MotoTorch from working after I had found a theme that allowed it to work OK under BB FRF57 0.1 Froyo 2.2

I hear it actuate the camera... but it now doesn't light the LED.

Current system info...

Bugless Beast FRF57 0.1 ( Froyo 2.2 )

Android ver. - 2.2
Baseband ver. - C_01.43.01P
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9 ( jdfg1.2lv )
Build voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 33333 test-keys

Before this update... I was able to get MotoTorch to work with the vanilla Froyo 2.2 release and also using the Blue Energy Theme... other themes that didn't allow it to work and produced a FC that I had tried have been NexFro for BB, Black Ice 1.3... and a few others that I can't remember at this time. I also could not get MotoTorch to run with a FC on the NexFro 1.0 and 1.01 ROM's ( don't confuse these with the theme made for BB by fab )

After I perform a full backup... I'll retest with BB FRF57 0.1 without adding a theme and possibly the vanilla Froyo .32 ROM as well.... I'll report back my results later

Randy

PS... I can only salute your efforts at trying to resolve the issues now being reported... I can only imagine how frustrating it must be trying to get an app to work on so many different configurations of systems.

I quickly tested the update with a vanilla Froyo .32 2.2 as well as a vanilla BB FRF57 0.1 build ( no added theme ) and still had the same issue I reported earlier...

I can certainly understand not wanting to do much work on getting this to work on the leaked Froyo on Droid at this time... It still would be nice to get a copy of the 2.8 APK that many were able to get to work on it if possible. In my case, I'd restore from my Titanium backup but I'd just wiped it doing a bit of housecleaning and then the update came in before I got a chance to perform a fresh backup.

Update.... I was able to restore an ealier CW update, then turned on Airplane Mode and disabled sync, wireless etc... this allowed be to backup my v2.8 before the Market Automatically updated it... I disabled auto update in the Market for the app at that point.

Update:
Not working anymore, but I notice the camera focusing "sound" each time I try to use the widget. What's the deal with that?

I am not sure what that's about. On the Nexus One(which is what I tested the 2.2 code on), it doesn't make that noise with MotoTorch or with the camera app. Running MotoTorch on a stock 2.1 DROID also does not make the noise. So I am not sure what that's about.

For 2.2, it will use the camera.

Yeah, when I was on 2.1 it never made any noise, just turned on the LED. On 2.2 it's making the shutter sound but does nothing else. Doesn't FC; the widget lights up as if it is working, but no light.
Anyone else noticing this?
