Movers from DX... ANY Regrets?

I dont see the noise cancellation as a big deal as I have a bluetooth I use the majority of the time. My bigger question would be whether the antenna issue is a software or hardware issue. Can this issue be handled in future updates or is it something that is just a part of the actual hardware in the phone? Any ideas?

Well the incredible had some sort of signal issues when it dropped. So maybe a fix will come with an update...

I was coming from a bb storm so I didn't have preconceived expectations of what an android phone would do for me. Started with the Fascinate and thought it was a great phone for the first week but as I got into it I found some shortcomings that I could not live with. Yes the screen is incredible but to be honest it only works slightly better outdoors than other phones I've owned. The big problem was no hands free control with a Bluetooth device and the overall GPS performance. So I switched to the Droid X and could not believe the difference between the phones. The GPS paired with Google works really well and now I understand the pages of posts complaining about Bing etc on the fascinate. The difference is really night and day. Also the control via Bluetooth is what it should be and now I can do it all. Difference in form factor was not an issue for me in fact the X fits better in my hand. I will recommend the X to all who ask.

I actually now am going out of my way to push people away from motorola. I can't stand their bootloader nonesense and the only way to get through to them is by hurting their sales in any small way. The dx is basically a caged animal that will never be unleashed. A voodoo-ed fascinate runs rings around it though anyway.

Everyone is entitled.to their own opinion and can buy what they want obviously but that's my feelings on the matter

They are both fantastic phones. I owned the DX for two weeks, and now the Fascinate.

DX Pros:
+ better call quality
+ slightly better signal
+ notification light
+ battery life might have been a touch better
+ slightly larger resolution

Fascinate Pros:
+ screen. It's been said a million times, but this screen is unreal... so good.
+ form factor, light weight!
+ easy to use one handed
+ much better camera and movies
+ 3d perf is awesome

At the end of the day, I have zero regrets letting go of the DX and going to the Fascinate. I like it quite a bit. The DX is a great device, but it's a beast, and the biggest issue being that it's hard to use with one hand. The SF is great with one hand, pocketable, and good looking. I wouldn't go back to the DX, but I can understand why folks like it, it's a good phone also.

I agree with the bolded part, except for one complaint: the worthless glossy black scratch/fingerpring magnet battery cover. WHY WHY WHY would they EVER want to make the back of a phone like that?? It touches our oily skin. And who in their right mind is EVER even going to be looking at the back of a phone with a screen that draws your eyes to it like flies to maple syrup??? Seriously!!!!

SK how's your mod project coming along? Weren't you going to do some kinda spray paint thing to the backplate? Or am I thinking of someone else :o

That was someone else, and we discussed that, but were ultimately worried about it peeling off with heavy use. It really needs to be a replacement back with a matte surface like what's on the DX or Eris.

First off, a stock Fascinate runs rings around the Droid X, I owned both.

Secondly, you can't blame Motorola for wanting to close off their phone. Go read on xda about how many people brick phones trying to root and do other stuff, then go and return the phones to get a new one successfully. Do you think its right for someone that bricks their phone doing something that voids the warranty, and have Motorola or any other manufacturer be on the hook for that?

Back during the 2.1 Droid Eris leak days, people were installing leaked os's and returning the phones because they couldn't root, or couldn't get the 2.1 ota. You think thats ok to do?

Rooting and returning it because of root issues is not OK. If you have a rooted device and the speaker craps out, I would want to return it for sure.

HTC is doing the same for their future devices, and what's to say others won't start following suit? At the least, other phone producers' security measures may not be as tough to crack as Moto's.

People are returning the X's for bricking their rooted phone. People are returning the SF's due to call quality, reception, and GPS issues. [/friendly jab :D]

I dunno... I had to return three X's due to hardware failures ;) My good friend has gone through 2 X's and is considering the Fascinate now :) The X is not perfect. Its a good phone when it works. The key phrase is "when it works."

While each phone has its problems, and the X does have problems, I would say the vast majority of the Xs are fine and don't have issues. I have heard a lot more complaints concerning the Fascinate if anything.

But I am just hoping mine is fine, so I don't have to exchange it. It is out for delivery!!!!:D

yeah maybe im one of the lucky few, but with my fascinate, incredible, and previous x i never had a problem that required a return.

I suspect that any phone is a good phone if it works right. I never had an Eris or an Omnia that worked .... And in my opinion the Fascinate and the DX I used didn't really "work" until I rooted and tweaked them.

Yeah me neither, the other complaint I had with the Incredible was the back door squeaking slightly, but it wasn't a deal breaker to me. I hope I continue to have success with phones with the Fascinate.

I was on the fence for quite some time between the X and SF and did a tonnnnnnn of reading of forums and a tonnnnnn of messing around on friends' X and SF before finally deciding on the X. The X has had some faults with migration to 2.2 that required some to have the phone replaced, but it seems the SF has had a much higher replacement rate (confirmed by a friend at a Verizon store and a Best Buy). Hopefully 2.2 helps correct those issues when it comes. I'm hoping for you guys :[ My X has seemed great so far.. so here's hoping it doesn't develop any issues.

I think what SirKronan said could be applied to most of us simply by us being on forums like these. No phone will fully satisfy us until we can root it and customize it to our liking :]

Well stated. In fact, your last sentence could more accurately be shortened to: No phone will fully satisfy us [period].

Well I stopped by my house today for lunch and fedex had already delivered my package. As soon as I got back to work I opened it up and was surprised. They sent me two packages. One with the phone and a back door battery case, the second package had a battery and another back door battery case. So now I have two, yay.

Phone seems pretty fast, haven't really noticed a speed difference between the X and this, but they are both fast.(I haven't rooted yet, still at work so it can get faster) Screen of course is awesome, noticed on smart keyboard the sound is off. I use the iphone sound and it isn't right. Anyone else having that issue?

Call Quality: Talked to my mom on the phone earlier and she said it was better than my last phone, she always complained about the Droid X(she was the only one), she said this one was great. Called my wife and she was hearing an echo at first, two seconds later she said it was perfect, didn't mess up again. Talked to my dad later and he thought it sounded great as well.

So far pleasantly surprised with the sound quality.

Signal: So far it looks as though I might be getting around the same as my X, maybe one bar less, cant remember, but have had no issues with it.

GPS: I never use it, so I won't judge on that matter.

Camera: So far haven't really noticed a difference one way or another, but granted I have only takes pics in my office at work. They look great, though I thought they were great on my Droid X.
Will say that the camera takes pictures extremely fast, which is great!

That is basically it for now, back to work.

Well, the rooted/tweaked Fascinate I have comes several orders of magnitude closer to the PERFECT phone than any other phone I've ever used. And it happens to also be a great MP3 player, a great personal video player, and the BEST PDA/planner I've used to date. So far, it rates pretty high on my satisfaction scale.

But neither the DX nor the Fascinate would please me with stock settings. I know so much more now about what these devices are capable of.

Stock = boring, bad battery life, sluggish interface, decent customization
Rooted/tweaked = stupid fast interface performance, sick battery life, otherwordly customization

We are making a good phone an extraordinary phone.

And the move to Fascination has been made!!! Give me a few days to screw around and find the ins and outs before I start yearning for a root and lagfix. SAPS, I will more than likely be in touch as I have a million and one questions. I can hopefully answer most questions reading up and not bugging you off the site!! bahaha

Wolfedude88, I hope you adhered to the fact that prior to use you should fully charge the battery.. and with lithium batteries it's typically best to let them sit on the charger a few hours beyond the phone saying it's fully charged for the battery's first charge :o

Yeah I definitely didn't, I thought that was just a myth? If not I hope it doesn't ruin anything, I never let my phone charge fully the first time and haven't had any issues yet, lets hope I stay lucky.

Phone is great so far, why do I have to be so busy at work today.
