Moving back to iPhone...

Android is growing very fast. There are thousands of apps and games to choose from, you have to remember this is a phone not your home computer. If you want amazing games, go to the computer, wii or psp... or better still get creative and make them yourself

I see a challenge and an opportunity here. I have created many apps over the years for people and Im new to android.

At the start of 2011 I will start creating apps for android free and paid. I might even create a thread to find out what people want.

Open source will win the day in the end over the iphone. Android phones are already outselling the iphone market and that will only get bigger

Daddycee, last night i used my Paypal Debit card (MC) to purchase through google checkout without a problem. Yes it pulled funds in my paypal account and worked. It would be nice to see regular paypal as an option soon and I think that will come but remember google checkout is a competitor to paypal so they might not be in a hurry to do that. In the meantime use your paypal debit card
 
god infestation of Iphone fan boys, I usually don't post as you can see, am a 'noob'.
I used to own a iPhone 3gs, loved the phone and am sure the iPhone 4 improves on that (yes some mates have it), although we all know it has documented flaws. I could see where android was heading and rather than go with what seems at times a brain washed belief of superiority by iPhone users I took leap. I love the desire, better hardware than iPhone 4 a lot of things my iPhone 4 mates get jealous about (apps they dont get and flash!!!) ,this of course will be further surpassed by gen 3 'snapdragon' dual processors and so on and so forth, apple have contend with many equally innovative manufacturers. also updates like froyo is opening up that hardware capability for use of memory hungry apps... which leads me onto.
the android system is fairly new, has come on in leaps and bounds and as far as apps are concerned numbers and time is on its side, its inevitable app quality will improve. this is due to....its a case now as about figures have indicated is android is going to have mass effect possibly greater than the iPhone in say a years time. this means developers will have the revenue streams akin to that of successful iPhone developers.
its only a matter of time that we see a common place situation of developers releasing apps on both, and lots of ported quality iPhone apps.
don't let an iPhone fan boy tell you any differently, its inevitable based on the classical economic principle of supply and demand. apps are amazing on iPhone but android apps like the devices it runs on will also improve in quality as the OS matures and numbers exponentially increase.

and to the guy who can't buy apps, that's really your fault and nothing to do with Google / android, its actually not rocket science to get the ability to buy apps. since you are able to use this forum I guess you have the ability to troubleshoot via the net, sometimes we all need a little help. BTW the system of buying apps should become straightforward (ok should be already!) with implementation of instant payment system like paypal.

rant over, sorry about lack of caps and data - would have backed up with figures about tide changing for app development due profitable figures from developers in relation to uptake of the android OS - but am on the phone and its late here in the UK and that would be too much for me currently!
 
Its a brave person who posts an iphone is better than type of thread on a competitor platform forum. After reading the entire thread, I'm impressed with the politeness of the majority of posts.

The op clearly wants different things from his phone and as such is right to want to change. Personally I love the android model, google should be commended for supporting android and ios in the way that they do. Google maps is on both os and iphone users do have a more mature age wise apps store.

One thing I could not live without on my phone is the automatic text reflow, this simple implementatio makes the desire internet experience my opinion the best I've ever seen on a phone.

I would have said that the text input was miles better on the iphone until I found SlideIT on the market place.

Personally I think it will be interesting to see how android develops after gingerbread, will android stop fragmentation by improving there ui and stopping overlay ui's. Really exciting times ahead, healthy competition will inspire innovation, it always has and I believe we should all celebrate that fact and rejoice in the fact that both os exist.

Enjoy your phones whatever they may be.

There is absolutely nothing for the desire (or any other android phone). I would love a dock like any of the iphone ones for my desire. Something like the B&O zepplin would be great.

Perhaps HTC should standardize the base/bottom of their phones.

Yes! +1 for that one. Although, to be fair I have an iPod Classic for that...


Now look, I know as fAndroids most of the posters are adopting the 'iSheep, iLoseSignal etc etc, Steve 'nut' Jobs' approach, all this talk about 'Soul selling' and such. But come on, seriously? It's a phone!! I have huge respect for Apple and their products. I sometimes find myself gazing in envy at the quite frankly gorgeous iPhone 4. Would I want to have one everyday? Probably not, but that's because the Desire is a better option for me. That doesn't make the iPhone a bad phone or choice, infact it's a fantastic device with an even better infrastructure surrounding it (iTunes, iStores etc.) And it's all just an oppinion at the end of the day anyway.

So, before you take the plunge and slate the iPhone and everything with an Apple logo and calling anyone that owns one a fanboy or a sheep, just take a step back and think about it for a second. By dismissing the iPhone in exactly the same way as a 'Fanboy' may dismiss all the other smartphones on the market, you are being a hypocritial oaf! Everyone on android seems to preach about how it allows you to cater to your needs perfectly because it's so customisable. Well what if your needs are fulfilled better with an iPhone? If your philosophy is truely that a smartphone should fulfill YOUR needs, but you then respond to someone saying 'I'm moving to iPhone' with 'OMG n00b, iSheep, go suckle on Steve's tit blah blahh blah' then you just make youself look foolish.

Stop being such closed minded fools, let this man have his iPhone, he will be very happy with it and that's great. Infact, if the Desire was never invented I would have an iPhone and I would probably be very happy with it too.

I am using HTC desire. I am realy happy with it. except one things. the issue with internal memory shortage. for this i can not install any high details games. And there is no solution for that. Though Frayo 2.2 allow application move to SD but most of them not possible like Google earth. i can not use it. i had to happy with google map.

i think HTC should do something about internal memory to keep all those user.

hi and sorry to dissapoint you but you can move almost all apps to SD card, and clearly you haven't searched in this forum for this answer as there was maybe 5 threads about how it's done. so i was also lazy to search it but will give you link to xda devs site (sorry mods if i cant do that, and all the credit goes to xda guys): Moving ANY app to SD on FroYo (or how to Enable all grayed out 'Move to SD' buttons)' - xda-developers

and im sure now you will think otherwise and you will have plenty of room for many more apps. however this thread wasn't about it but oh well... :) have a nice day

EDIT: i hope you have Froyo 2.2 on your phone before you even try doing anything and even thinking of moving apps to SD
 
app to SD seems to only work on apps that have been given the capability to run from the sd card, and whats different to the version in froyo already included (or SDMove which is smaller)??

Yeah and if you want a camera buy a dslr, if you want a music player buy a Sony walkman....
That's a poor attitude especially from a developer for a dominant platform in order to surpass the rivals.

I do know what you mean, have just bought a galaxy s and I do miss my iphone apps but the phone more than makes up for it - FREEDOM!
I have solved it by keeping my fav games on my ipod touch which I use in the car as its got a built in system so need to keep it - best of both worlds!

There must be a halfway house between Apple's control freakery, and the dross that fills up most of the market place for android. There is a definite 'beta' feel to most of what is in the market place compared to apple. I hope things get better rapidly - it needs to.

At the end of the day...the HTC desire/android are for people who cant afford/justify an iPhone. Oh yes...how rebellious....going against the grain, going against convention... I dare say the same people have a betamax player, laser disc player, and a sega saturn gathering dust at the bottom of their wardrobes, after similar attempts to "rebell" with tech. The HTC Desire, betamax player, laser disc players and the sega saturn all have/had suppierior processing power but if the software/media is not produced to take advantage of them...they are useless.

he doesnt make the android one afaik.
lots of other apps made for android are of good quality and high end so he doesnt really have an excuse

as for the code and working with...

ps2 won the war over the xbox even though xbox is easier to develop games for. popularity will attract the developers and if its just "coding in java" why does he find it so difficult and hideous? its an old language that is fairly simple and on top of that hes now lambasting linux? pretty sure ios shares some similarities on that front

This argument about app store v market I cant understand. My Mrs has the iphone4 so ive had chance to play around with it.

I can't find a "useful" (and I use that term strongly) app that I cant get on both phones that I use on a day to day basis...

Yes Apple has more but thats just it, numbers. A high percentage of the content is useless and pointless.

The thing that swings the desire (more so now we have froyo) is the one reason why I will never not swop an android phone in the future and should be one of the main arguments when comparing the two.....Flash.

I use my browser more than anything and the fact I can view websites like I can on my laptop will always be apples downfall..

With more and more people turning to smatphones for their one and only mobile gadget its a dealbreaker..
 
also alot of the "better" stuff available for the iphone you still need to jailbreak it.

its not like you have to root the android to get the best of it either. if you want a normal experience its fine as it is
its the people that love to tinker that want more and due to the nature of android and its backgrounds its more available

I know a few people who have made the switch from iPhone to Desire. I also know a couple of them regret it. It's a personal thing and I honestly think some people are just more comfortable with what they know.

I've managed to find an app for pretty much everything I need and because money is tight my pockets are equally so - I've never paid for an app.

A good London Transport app ;)

iPhone has a few nice ones, Android only has "London Journey" which doesn't have some stations and doesn't include the Overground network...
One of my friends showed me an app that tells you which carriage to get into so you'll be next to the exit when the tube stops, I was pretty jealous of that ;)
 
network rail is good and connects directly to network rails api
also theres a uk busroute one.
both are paid apps but they are high quality and extremely up to date
