Must Have Apps

Must have apps for work:
AndroidVNC
ConnectBot

After setting up native vpn and Exchange ActiveSync, all I needed was AndroidVNC and ConnectBot. Now I don't even need a laptop to easily work from anywhere. Great apps!

I must have google voice. I put in a request a while ago and haven't heard from them in months. I was looking for a specific thread to request an invite but nothing was there. I would appreciate a reply or PM from anyone that could send me an invite. I got tons of international calls that would be made infinitely cheaper. Thanks.

Try checking out ebay... $6 for the invite

OMG...people do sell anything and everything!!!! -_-;;;

I started using Volume Locker and i love it.

Everytime you lower or raise the volume using the side volume keys, it asks you to confirm. If you do nothing, it returns the volume to the previous spot.

The reason I need this is I use google maps a lot and place my eris in a dash mount i bough for it.
Everytime i place it, the dumb volume goes crazy. With this app, if i dont confirm, Nothing happens

I found that I was never using those volume buttons anyways. I either use Audio Manager, or Profile widget to adjust my volume.

Works great for me:D

do a search.
depending on who you ask, task killers either extend battery life or destroy it.
according to me, they destroy it :D

when you close apps repeatedly, the OS uses more CPU and battery reopening them and closing over and over.
there is a thread called taskillers, the good the bad and the ugly, where OTD breaks it down and explains. read up on it.
i used to use ATK, ut after reading that thread i uninstalled and within 2 days my phone was runing much smoother

I've searched six ways from Sunday and can't find the thread you were talking about that breaks this all down. Little help please? Thanks.

in case my opinion matters to anyone, i dont use them. i consider it bloatware.
its unnecessary software that interferes with how the OS handles things.

Ok, starting a new thread where you can post your favorite apps, paid or free.

1. Better Keyboard ($2.99): it's definitely better than the standard keyboard. And you can download cool skins for it...I use Oil Slick
2. Handcent SMS (FREE): the default Messages app sucks, Handcent is a pretty good replacement. Chomp SMS is also pretty good, but I can't stand the ads at the bottom.
3. Gmail Unread Count (FREE): Way better than the default Mail app, because that one sucks.
4. Evernote (FREE): It's like a notepad 2.0. You can take note pictures, and view/edit notes online on your computer.
5. YouMail (FREE): visual voicemail app, works great.
6. Advanced Task Manager Free: good for when your phone gets slower.

Let's hear some other good apps!

? I posted a thread called Best Droid Eris Apps, and I went to look at it and it said it was moved to here. Anyway, here's my faves:

handcent sms
google unread count
ADW launcher
evernote
call confirm

I downloaded this one of Andrizoid's links and didn't have a problem. After you download it you have to use an file explorer like Astro to find it (search for archive-signed.apk), tap on it and it gives you the option to install.

What problems are you having installing? I always have a problems with these download websites like filefactory and megaupload. They make it confusing on purpose so that you will click on something else by mistake. Or maybe I am just easily confused :p.

I have tried so many times to download this, and it does not work for me. I have astro but it always says that its not compatible on my phone and no program can open it

a pretty cool music player i found was lithium music player. its simple yet cool. not a lot of setting options, and i wish you could set ringtones with it, but other than that its pretty sweet.

ScreenModeWidget . Use it to keep screen on and disable screen lock.
City Caller ID
AudioManager
K-9 Mail
MyTasks

Does anyone know of a good Note, Memo, or Task program that auto syncs with your Google account?

Hey - not sure if anyone responded to this one or not. Try out Evernote. It's a free application (I don't think it even has a paid version). Anyway, it doesn't sync to your Google account but you can access it online on any computer from Welcome to your notable world | Evernote Corporation and edit, create new, and delete your notes. It's pretty cool, you should check it out.

Three apps I can't live without:

StatusNotes ($1.49)- allows you to attach notes with custom icons in your status bar. Great for quick reminders. (Limited feature free version also available)

Gesture Search (by Google)(Free)- Find contacts, apps, music, bookmarks by drawing letters. Search narrows with each letter. I have hundreds of business contacts on my phone and this makes it easy to find contacts quickly.

xScope Browser ($2.99)- lightweight, fast browser. Multitouch, one finger zoom, tabs.

How do you make the scannable bar codes for these?
