Must Have Apps

I'd like to put in another plug for My Tracks. I know it has been mentioned here before, but it is worth checking out. I track all of my on/offroad cycling adventures with it. It uploads everything onto a google map that I can pull up and share with other people. It also organizes all of your tracks in google docs.

Also Sirius/XM app...for all those that have an account, download this app. I'm totally loving it while I'm at work!

I have Sirius in my car, is it extra to get hooked up on the phone?

I had it in my car also, and I'm paying an extra $2 a month to have it online and on my phone...I think it's worth it because I can listen all day during work at my computer!

Thx....I have Rhapsody app on my phone which is pretty slick as I can build play lists of artists I like as well as stations....but I like the Sirius stations, especially the news and sports I play a lot in the car...

how do you like sirius compared to, say pandora or last.fm? My dad likes his sirius a lot, but pandora is only 3$ a month (last.fm is free) and I've been thinking about getting a sub.

Ok, here is my list. I tried to avoid repeating anything someone already mentioned. I was going to include screen shots too, but figured that would make this WAY too long.

Admittedly I have not read all 300+ posts in this thread but I've searched and not found mention of call managers. I have an Eris running xtrsense and I need something better than the stock call notifications. My gf has a restricted #. If she calls and doesn't leave a msg it doesn't even show up in the call log. So if I get 5 calls and one is hers I see that I have a missed call notification when I wake the phone but don't see who it was when I look at my recent calls. (hope that makes sense) There must be an app that will make note of ALL missed calls.

Also, I'd like the ability to block certain #'s.

Also can I set a separate ring tone for calls from restricted #'s?

All of this should be included in a good call manager, right?

Finally I'd like the ability to turn the ringer (but not alarm) off at night with the exception of certain phone #'s that I would want to ring thru for emergency sake.
I don't know if that would be found in a call manager or not. Maybe a separate app?

Thanks,
John

try SPC

I'm trying SPC but I don't see an option that changes the ringtone for a "restricted" number (where the number is not shown on the incoming call) and I dont see how it will make note of the missed "restricted" call in my phone book.
I'm not interested in hidden phone calls or faking phone calls.

Maybe I haven't spent enough time with the program yet....

That sounds like something that Tasker might be able to do. It's a very powerful app, though, like many things, with great power in an app comes a bit of learning to get through complex steps. Still, I could see Tasker being able to silence the ringer at a particular time and unsilence at another time (or set the default ringtone to a particular one that was just silence, if it cannot do that), and then have an event trigger that turns on the ringer when somebody in a particular contact group calls and then turns it back off it is between one time and another when the call is over. Not sure, but that sounds like a very Tasker thing.

The Froyo/GB ROMs all have the ability to blacklist particular phone numbers, by the way, so they will not ring through. And the call log definitely shows unknown callers (is that the same thing as restricted numbers? you mean somebody who blocks their caller id?)

it does what i want it to do easily. but i thought i saw options in there for what you are talking about.

if you want just ringtone changing and stuff, why don't you try adding a "restricted" contact and using the contacts feature for that type of caller. know what i mean? so "restricted" would be considered a contact. it's a thought. never tried it. but you have those options with anyone in your contact list

I might try it out. I like options...

When I look thru my phone, I realize that the recent call list is where the restricted calls don't show up. (by restricted I mean calls with no number at all associated with them. My GF has her # unlisted/unidentified)
I guess what's happening is that I wake my phone, see that I have missed calls, and hit the "phone" button which brings up the recent call list. While a lot of the calls listed might be "unknown" (but still visible) numbers, any calls with no number associated don't show up at all. I realize now that they do show up in the "call history" though I wish I didn't have to think to check a second location to see that.

I'll have to figure out how to blacklist certain #'s. I know I can do it with spc but I always rather manage with less add-ons if possible.

Maybe I've just been too impatient with learning all the ins and outs of the phone. :-(

It's an idea. I've created a contact with no phone number associated and called it "restricted". Then I associated a specific ringtone with it. I'll see how it works the next time a restricted # calls me.

now i remember another app i had a long time ago(sorry i can't remember the name) that screened calls. it was a caller id app(i think) that had all the things your looking for. so maybe search spc and see the similar apps.i found spc that way in reverse.

That's right. The "restricted" calls are from my GF. MOST times I don't want to block them....

wish i could remember that one i had. its kind of what i used it for and it was perfect and easy to setup. i see a call filter app. try searching call filter. if i think of the app(you will probably have it solved by then. lol) i will post it

I'll look for that when I have time.

Creating a contact named "restricted" with no number entered didn't work. She's called twice and it just rang with the default ringer and doesnt' show in the recent call list.
