Root my EVO whiped out my roomates Iphone.. PLEASE HELP!

Here is my phone stats...

Htc Evo 4g .. 2.15.00.09.01 base band.... 2.3.3 android version...
2.6.37.4-cayanogenmod-01338-g0374804shade@toxygene #1....
cpu info... ARMv7 processor rev 2 (v7I)..

anyways this is what happened...

i just got this evo to work after i rooted it and did all the updates, i wanted to try the phone out to see if everything still worked.. well it did!
worked pretty damn good to might i add lol...

I tried to do a Quik video phone call that i downloaded from my market app, everything worked good on my end! But on my roommates jailbroken iphone 4 my picture was upside down for some reason.

after that we both closed out our apps and went and did our own thing, after about an hour or so my roommate busts in my door saying his phone just got whipped out after the quik program did a upload on his phone.

I DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY EVO!

This virus or whatever it is, whipped out all of his info as well as his entire i tunes account then tried to whippe his computer but itunes did not let it.
also it closed out all of the linked account that he had on his phone.. like email.

HERES MY QUESTION: WTF JUST HAPPENED? LOL

idk if i should whippe my own phone, because its infected with something..
but at the same time i have scanned my computer for viruses an came up empty.....

PLZ help me out guys! by the way thanks for all the hard work you put in with all this rooting and rom mods that you guys do! this forum helped me root my phone with relative ease!

just to be on the safe side i would go ahead and do a full wipe. and i mean wipe everything but the card (actually you might want to consider that as well). of course make a nandroid backup. just in case.

Seriously though. I would wipe everything not tied down. Getting a virus of any type is nasty business. picture files typically cannot store virus so your safe to back those up. You should also sync your contacts to the google cloud, I'm sure they will clean out any virus there. Then flash a new rom and start over.
 
does anyone run any antivirus on their phones?? like Lookout or Avg or anything?? is it even alright to run one with a rooted phone?

I've had a Lookout account for both my rooted Hero and rooted Evo with no troubles at all and most importantly, no viruses, malware.....
 
Not 100% sure on this but I dont think a virus can cross platforms . microsoft virus cant infect linux and so on but again im not 100% shure just never heard it happen. usualy mac and unix based soft ware has a low infection rate compared to microsoft. My bet is it came from his computer. Again tho id still do the wipes just to be safe because u never know what some bored 12yr old can do with some free time and a computer.
 
well see that's what i thought.. i have never heard of a virus transferring like that for linux.

And shouldnt my phone be acting up as well..? i mean if i do have a virus on it, (from my past computer experiences) shouldnt it have crashed ass well as the i phone?

i been looking on all kinds of forums, and so far this has been a isolated incident or at least no one has reported in on it just yet lol
(i knew i would be first at something one day lmao)
 
From my experience, I would say one of the following happened.
1. Coincidence
2. He downloaded an app created by a malicious coder
3. Possibly the whole jailbroken iphone root password = alpine thing.


I'd bet 99:1 that it had zip to do with your evo, expecially with your app coming from the market as opposed to using the cydia program (or installous, which means warez, potentially).

But if I were you, I'd wipe everything. Copy current nandroid to PC, wipe card, wipe everything, then re-flash rom.

And really, it could be anything that your roommate downloaded. The program may have just been waiting for another app to run before starting the destruction sequence.
