I am at the gadget show in Birmingham and have just been able to play with the s2. It is amazing! Just as good as predicted. The camera is particularly good. The phone was a prototype but running 1.2GHz processor. Very smooth but no WiFi so couldn't test the browser.
The phone is plastic but feels good build quality and so light.
They still confirm may 1st release date.

How would you compare it to the original galaxy s? Any more specific details you can give? How's the speaker quality? Is it squeezable like the galaxy s? How solid and flush is the chrome around the edges? How well does it handle? Can you one hand the phone and thumb it, or is it too big? Any other phones you have experience with you can compare it with? How does it taste? Smell? FEEL?! How strong is the vibrate? Okay, not too concerned about the vibrate actually. Some others may be however. How did you know it was the 1.2ghz version? Blah blah blah. Why didn't you bring some bolt cutters and "borrow" the device for research? It's okay as long as you give it back. :p

It feels much better than the original galaxy s. The back feels sturdy, in fach the whole phone feels very sturdy, but also incredibly light. Like, I still cant get over how light it is, but it still feels good in the hand.

You can thumb the phone yes, but of course this depends if you have littel fingers or not.

It feels fantastic, it smells great, unfortunately I wasnt sure how many people had touched it so i didnt taste it. I'm sure it tasted wonderful tho.

Hi Lekky / Choco thingy

Were you at the show too Lekky?

Yes although plastic, everything feels extreemley study and of quality.

I have never had a Galaxy S so cannot compare, I am on the HTC desire which has been a great phone but time to move on.

The sgs2 feels better quatlity vey flush with all edges and cover (did not seem to creak or twist) and is the sort of phone you will want to get out and impress your friends.

The only problem I notice was opening the video file which took longer than I expected... about 10-15 secnds which I was a bit disappointe about but have to remember these were just prototypes. The picure file opened instanly and loaded the pics quickly.

As I said, the thing that really impressed was the camera quality .

Sorry, didn't try the speaker.

Went back for a second play and connected it to my desire to get an internet conection which was solw but with a poor signal. I liked the transition from prtrait to landscape - a bit iphone ish in that it rolls over as opposed to snapping.

Obviously I only had minutes to play with it but nothing put me off - it has spurred me on to get the phone.

I did try to slip it in my pocket but the guy from samsung didn't seem too impressed!!
Come on May 1st - (I am beginning to dream of this phone every night my gf thinks I am obsessed - she may be right )

OMG lekky is a mod. I'll diss people less now. No wait, I've always been squeaky angelic. :p

Speaking of which, why are you two from Manchester? And both went to the Gadget Show? I don't believe in coincidences. Freudian slip! One of you is a double.

Glad to hear the phone is sturdy. Number one reason I wanted to sell my Galaxy S right when I unboxed it, even before turning it on. Reminds me of my old Nokia 6233, which was stellar all around, but the plastic gooey buttons and squeezability drove me nuts. Any chance you can do more build quality comparisons? Say, plastic to plastic, maybe comparing it to a common dumbphone like a Samsung flip-phone, or even cheap prepaid phones. Some of those things are built like tanks.

And was the GPS working? No one seems to bother to test this. Indoors may be a problem, but you never know. Probably another off-wall question, but did you test the fit of the headphone jack? Certain smartphones, like my old Samsung Wave, you literally had to use a hammer to get it all the way in. Even more nerve racking on a thinner plastic phone.
