My last night.

Well, it's been coming, and the time has arrived.

I ship out for meps tomorrow, then fly out to Illinois Tuesday for boot camp.

As I sit, posting a thread on AF, I wonder... what else should I do tonight?

Dunno if its any consolation but, if I were in your position I would probably be doing the exact same thing. Posting on AF wondering what else to do.

If you have a signifigant other take em out for a movie or something, thats all I can really think of.

Good luck.

You're joining the military, navy or airforce?

Well...good luck. Hope you enjoy bootcamp and it doesn't break you! I guess we won't see you posting here that often anymore?

It may sound corny but spend some time with your family. Sit down and watch TV with mom and dad.

After graduating boot camp, I saw them for a couple days on leave but after that my four years of service were pretty much spent away from home. Even now, 5+ years after EAS, I still rarely see them.

Here's wishing you good luck! Hopefully, this will be the best decision you will ever make! I miss it everyday!

I hope so too. So how long is bootcamp? lol

USMC - 13 Weeks OORAH!
Army - 9 Weeks
USAF - 8.5 Weeks
Navy - 8 Weeks

The OP is joining the Navy, so about 8 weeks assuming nothing untowards happens, like an injury that would set him/her back in training.

I could've just said 8 weeks, but I wanted to list them out to show the Marine Corps on top... oorah! Couldn't help it.

2 months ain't too bad...it can go pretty fast.

haha...that oorah just gives it away :P I guess we know what field you're in. What the heck is oorah? Sounds like one of those cute *sounds* the Japanese girls say, lol.

I wish you all the best in your upcoming Navy quest. I remember Great Lakes so well; in December it is as cold as hell.
....
I suffered my Navy boot camp at Great Lakes beginning in December of 1957, and it was colder than cold. Twenty one years later, I retired from the navy fully appreciating the values that were instilled in me.

Pay close attention to those that are teaching you. Their experience and your retention of what they offer may well save your and your shipmates lives. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

It is a blood curdling cry, forever embedded in the souls of our enemies as the last sound they ever heard.

haha...still can't imagine that actually. Well me think me found an interesting word to use...though it'll be more of *excited squeal* 'oorah' :D and *confused* 'oorah?' *kekeke* I wonder if someone will realize I used such a 'manly' cry incorrectly :D

I doubt that they will recognize it...

I was pretty sure the cry was 'hooah' but to each his own.

hooah - Army
Oorah - Marines

Ahh.. Great Mistakes Illinois; I remember that place. I was there over the late summer of '94 and got to experience the magical combination of 100* F and 100% humidity. I'm still glad I wasn't there over the winter though.

By now Thefoodman52 will have gotten his buzz-cut, picked up his gear, and will probably be in those crappy temporary barracks they put you in while waiting for enough recruits to show up to form a company. He might even be wondering why his company commander had that gleam in his eye when he told his company about "payday". (Payday had nothing to do with money, it was when everybody was medically certified and could be worked into the ground if anybody screwed up).

One of my first experiences just an hour after arriving was watching a recruit get reamed. Apparently this guy had decided to run away after a few weeks training, changed his mind, and was caught trying to sneak back. I'll never forget the way one petty officer was screaming into his face:"You're a real stupid shitbird aren't you?!?" "Yes petty officer" "Who do you think you are?!?" "A stupid shitbird, petty officer!"

Just takes longer to toughen some people up than others :p

J/K!

For me, basic was more challenging mentally than physically. Loosing all of your freedom sucks but it was over pretty quick and wasn't too bad for most of us. I went through AF basic training when it was only 6 weeks long though. That was barely hard enough to weed out the weakest of the weak. I heard that soon after I went through, the AF started issuing timeout cards to the trainees. If they were getting yelled out and they just couldn't take it anymore...they could get 30 minutes without anyone being able to yell at them. Shameful...

Now I know why people looked at me like I was crazy when I would scream and punch file cabinets to get people's attention later on :D

AF = Air Force :D

We had these big metal vertical file cabinets that made a very loud sound when you hit them. End-of-day meetings would get out of hand with random chatter and after the 4th or 5th time of telling the flight to quiet down...had to make a bang and start yelling.

I'm not quite the angry soul I used to be :)
