Does flashing and nanding and all the other great stuff we do leave random crap on the sd card..... and if so, can it cause lag.... and if so, how do I know what is safe to delete?

some roms have added folder to the sd card so that you can flash certain things if you like. like some will have the bloatware removed but in a foldr. usually the dev will post this kind of info in the op.

and the only time this might cause lag is if your card is partitioned and you are running out of space on your card.

and as far as what is safe. that will depend on the app. some apps will store data there and it will not function correct if you delete it. but really most things on the card is safe to remove. you can even pull out the card and your phone will still run just fine. it is your apps that may suffer. however, if you are partitioned then you this will not work.

hi....yes diff roms leave diff folders..for instance ICS leaves 4-6 diff folders ...ringtones..notifications....etc...so if i use a nan and go back to cm 7 i will go in my sd card and delete the unused folders not needed on cm 7 from ics..my adviice would b to take a snap shot of ur sd card before to have as a reference and make sure u have ur nan droids to fall on ..but in all honesty i delete folders and if they r needed they just replace themself...but i do not recommend this in case ur failure and i do it ...mostly on cm 7 and nandroid also i look through every folder before delete to make sure its not used and i always check the dates on them as well.

I do a basic maintenance of myne atleast once a week. I go through and delete cache from programs and zip up things I'm not needing an move them over to a hard drive then I have a update zip bash that I wrote that I run. It copies all the new files that I created over the past week to a zip on the harddrive and then it updates from the partitioned drive the partition zip file I have on the hard drive. I normally just delete everything I don't want don't format but twice a year. Formatting puts stress on the first sector which can kill a disc/card. Deleting things is less stressful on the card. Not that its like a serious intense process or anything just writing over it each time makes it weaker and weaker. Ok think i've rambled on enough *L*

I also move pictures/wallpapers that I've downloaded from different programs over to my /media/Pictures folder. This makes it nice for finding the pictures you want to use. I have all my ringtones and notifications in folders by content. (Ie.. Pink Floyd is in Pink Floyd folder, Zeppelin in Led Zepp folder and so on. I change up every few weeks to keep things fresh so I will move the folders over to the hard drive and keep them from taking so much room on the SDCARD. Of course Now I really wouldn't have to worry with it as I just got the Patriot Class 10 32 gig card. Also I only keep at max three nandroids on the phone at any time and I keep a ROM and KERNEL and DT A2SD along with superwipe. So If I do run into major issues I should be ready. I am planning on taking my old 16gig and storing a rom and kernel on it incase anything happens to this card i'll have a backup. I can just change the combo out every now and then to keep things fresh.
