Okay so I am finally going to flash a ROM and I trying to decide between these two. I have read about both of them and I really like both of them I think I like how MikFroyo looks better and I heard that it was faster but I also read about a couple of people having problems with it. I also have a question, if I put LP over MikFroyo will it still be faster and will I lose al the sense apps like on stock sense? Thanks for any input.
 
Ultimately, I think it comes down to personal preference. Is Mik's faster???...maybe...just a bit. Does either one have more features than the other....I don't think so. That's about all I got. Myn's was always good to me. I flashed Mik's last night and like it as well. I came from Azraels which is the fastest but also a little more bare bones....stock like. So I gues I am of no help... And I don't use LP so i dunno about that....
 
To be honest, nothing is stopping you from downloading both, flashing one of them, seeing how you like it for five minutes, flashing the other one, then comparing. You don't have to restore all your apps and change all your settings to get a feel for how a ROM looks and behaves. It will take no more than 30 minutes of your time (plus the extra time it takes to download both, of course). Once you decide which one you like, then proceed to restore everything. I think you'll find that myn's has a little more polish to it, but mikfroyo is noticeably faster. Beyond that, myn's may have a few more theming options, but most of the mods out there now are available for both.

As for LP, it's no different than stock. If you use it, you're still not going to be able to use HTc widgets. Speedwise, though, everything that makes mik's faster is more of a system-wide type of thing. You're likely to notice any speed improvements with launcherpro, specifically, but it certainly won't be worse.
 
Okay well then I think I am going with Mik's for the speed and then I may put LP on top of it. Oh and what is the difference between deodexed and odexed?

What Is Odex And Deodex In Android [Complete Guide]

Basically, deodexed means that you have the ability to modify system files in order to theme them in a way that is otherwise not possible. Almost every custom ROM out there is deodexed. The stock one is not. If you flash mik's or myn's you will have a deodexed ROM.
 
Well I had the same consideration today and just finished flashing Myn's. Now I'm thinking about themes.

They both put it on the sdcard with other removed "bloatware". For mik's it will be in a directory named removed_apps. I forget what it's called with myn's. I think it's something like optional apps. Either way, they both make it available. It's just not installed by default. Anyway, you won't need it with Hulu. Myn's has hulu as a flashable addon. It comes default with mik's.

When you say you can modify the system files what do you mean?? and Urge I flashed Mik's ROM and its amazing theres so many things you can do with it and it looks awesome

Yes and no. You *can* just restore all apps and settings with titanium backup, but I don't recommend it. You could be restoring things that will cause conflicts, and cause a bootloop. I selectively restore only the apps/app data that I need, and restore settings manually. Yes, it takes longer, but it always works, so...take your pick.

I mean the framework files. Basically, developers create themes for the system by modifying certain framework files. You can't just modify these files and hope it will work. You need to have a deodexed ROM first. Pretty much everything you need to know is in that link.
 
My first root was one week ago. I flashed the the mikfroyo 4.4 ROM two days ago to my EVO 3.7 version and I absolutely love it. No problems, classy, super fast, did not lose anything in the process except bookmarks which are relatively easy to restore with chrome to phone. Thanks for the juice millkman.

hmmm I did this when I installed myn's... I didn't think it was a big deal at first but I've gotten a few random reboots. Would you and ed suggest I start over from scratch? Reinstall and then only restore my apps and data?


... OTA I was getting random reboots with fresh as well. Maybe it's realted to an app I'm using.

It could be. That's the problem - it's hard to troubleshoot :). If you were having the problem before, though, it's unlikely that it's specifically being caused by the fact that you restored that way. Did it do that before the OTA, or did it start then? When you say fresh, do you mean stock or Fresh ROM?
 
ok...officially for real for sure done with miks..another week and another reset. it locks up now again after a week. not sure which way I am heading from here haha.

Are you overclocking? I just had a lockup and thinking that is what caused mine.

Any insight on why you think yours happened would be helpful.
 
no idea...it just starts lagging after about a week. i never had these issues on fresh or myns. i am done toying with it. this makes 3 or 4 wipe and flash and i just don't have the patience

Maybe it doesn't like pandora :p. Seriously, though, there's got to be an explanation for the issues you're having. What kernels have you used with it? How long ago did you last use a different ROM? I have a thought.

i've tried a few different kernels but maybe i should try more.

what is your idea?

Well, based on what I've done in the past, I've blamed ROMs for things that were either my fault or were just caused by other thing in general (anything from using different kernels to restoring what I shouldn't have with titanium backup). I'm wondering if you've tried mikfroyo with the just the stock kernel for a while, or at least used it with kernels you've used with myn's. Have you been trying new kernels that you didn't try with myn's or anything else? For example, netarchy has gotten a lot of updates lately. To avoid switching too many things at once, and not knowing what to blame, you should stick with the exact same version when switching ROMs, and keep it for a while. Have you been doing that? It's hard to say, but I don't see how thing could be a problem with mik's, only because I haven't heard of anyone else having this specific issue.
 
Iyou may be on to something (no surprise) I did switch to a newer netarchy kernel. I never understand why it works so well and then just stops

Yeah, that's definitely strange, but it *can* take time for certain issues to start causing noticeable problems. Have you noticed anything in logcat out of the ordinary? Maybe you should try the stock kernel for a while or one of the older versions of netarchy (whatever version you used back on myn's if you remember). Give it a shot, it can't hurt.
 
Yup switched back to 4.1.9 and things are a little better. Still getting that odd unresponsive screen issue. Have narrowed it down to only ocurring 60-90 secs after reboot
