Naked or case?

Using protection?

Naked for sure. No need to add bulk and ruin the Evo's pure beauty covering it in some ugly case.. Screen protectors are a waste with modern scratch-resistant screens.

Just follow these two simple rules, and your phone will be fine :

1. Carry the phone in an empty pants or suit pocket (don't keep in the same pocket as keys etc!)
2. Don't drop your phone

1. I do this but the phone is sometimes set down on the table, etc and will eventually pick up micro scratches all over the plastic. Metal and soft-touch plastic help avoid this compared to glossy plastic but it's still an issue.

2. Well, I obviously try not to do this but there's always that one time where you slip and drop it. The same way I keep a cheap $12 filter on all my camera lenses to protect them from smudges and scratches, it can make sense to have a cheap invisible sheet of plastic over your phone to ensure that it stays good as new. Easier to replace the sheet of plastic than the phone and it doesn't hurt the look of it.

I'll probably go with an InvisibleShield. I don't know whether I'll go screen-only or full-body--I think screen-only would be okay on the Evo, unlike on my 3G. Also, in addition to being a bitch to get on, putting it in to/out of pocket all the time eventually peels the back (depending on how it fits the phone), and that's annoying as hell. Definitely thinking screen-only.

I never drop my phones, but I don't live in a vacuum. The air, tables, my hand, and my pocket all have particulate matter in/on them. These can and will scratch the screen, unless some very impressive advance has been made without my knowledge.

Eh, I'll just replace the stock screen with a diamond one. We'll be good then, right?

So for those who have used it, is it easy to put on and how protective is it really?

It's not horribly easy to put on, but it's not difficult. It's easy to mess up, but it's not too hard to put it on right, if you know what I mean. As far as the level of protection it affords, it's very impressive--they're not exaggerating on their site. You can run a key with a fair amount of pressure straight across the material and leave no marks. It's very, very good.

Weird. I have ZAGG on all my devices (Zune HD, camera, etc), and it is always worth the money.

It was too big for my pre. So I threw it away.

Anyone plan on using the kickstand? I don't think I've seen a case with the kickstand In mind. I'll get a screen protector, and I'll wait to see how the kickstand case works out.

I do. I'm planning to use the phone as my night clock or whatever. At minimum that.

I have carried my iPhone 3G and more recently Nexus One without any "protection" for months and years. Both are as good as new. Then again, I am very particular about babying my phones (e.g. always careful about setting them down on hard surfaces etc).

YMMV of course.

I'm soooo torn! I'm a big clutz and drop my phone all the time (especially when drunk and texting on the dance floor)... but I also wear skinny jeans and know the EVO is already going to have a hard time fitting in my pocket.

Screen protector for sure... might keep the rest naked or find a super thin case.

Same here I had my iPhone 2G for almost 2 years before I put a scratch in the screen, I dropped the phone face down while walking on this weird pebbled concrete and kicked it about 10 feet. :( Though they are pretty damn hard to see unless you have light shinning on it just right I forget they are their.
The back has plenty of scratches in it but that doesn't matter

I will use a screen protector and an otterbox case when they come out. I run a kitchen and it never fails that I drop my phone on the hard tile floor all the time. I use to break phones constantly until I got the otterbox case. I have not broke a phone since buying this case.

I would hate to get this phone and then have something happen to it.

Thanks for turning me on to the otterbox cases, I will get one. Looks very durable and cool looking

My boss has one on his Blackberry and it turns an average phone into a brick! It's like a huge plastic box for a phone :D I can't find one for the HD2 so not sure how much bulk it would add to an Evo.

Invisibleshield for sure, not sure about an actual case. Maybe a body glove hard case.

...Tempting, then, as I also baby my phones. However, for $10, an invisible... invisibleshield can't hurt, IMO.

Actually if Tech21 or someone else comes out with something like the iBand with d3o then I would probably buy a case. One the slickest cases I have seen out there.

Holy crap! After googling iband I would be all over that case. What great durability.

I just can't bring myself to do that to a pretty phone... I'd rather be careful than have a big brick in my pocket :(.

I don't care about nerd status a leather belt holster for me with a screen protector. I wish it had the coating like the hero.

I used a silicone sleeve on my hero, before I bought the extended battery. Maybe HTC will include a sleeve like they did with the HD2.

I've been wondering about this myself.. I usually go naked with my phones. I bought a case from Sprint for my Touch Pro and it made it uncommonly HUGE, and when I took it off it left giant scratch marks around the edge of the phone. Those silicone covers always look very tempting, but I've never tested the reliability of one. I seldom drop my phone though

I agree with point #1, but strongly suggest if you use quality camera lenses (some of mine cost over 2200$) that you either not use a protective lens filter or you use a better one (B+W, etc). I can see a strong loss of contrast on all the cheap filters I have used, negatively effecting the image.

Hurry up with the Evo sprint. I want to drop tmob and this crappy BBerry. I'll be able to say I own both an Evo *and* a STI. :D
