If my friend does a nandroid backup on his EVO can I put it in the proper folder and restore it on my phone?

I would not suggest it and have not tried it myself. That said, as long as the nandroid does not contain the wimax partition, it may function and be fine. Just make sure you have a nandroid of YOUR wimax before trying it.
all you guys are correct. nandroid backups are phone specific. but akazabam has created a script in which you can pull stuff out of a nandroid backup. pretty cool. check this out:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/319602-read-copy-contents-nandroid-backups.html

Speaking of......I wonder what he is up to lately. Haven't seen anything from him in a while. I know that he was moving but that was quite some time ago.
