Need external battery charger -- they don't exist?

I bought on ebay for $1.00 one of these Amazon.com: Samsung OEM Battery Charging Case ABCC778BBA for Samsung M800 Instinct: Cell Phones & Service (read the reviews section) hoping our batteries would fit (sideways), but our batteries are "just" too big, if you jam it in you won't get it back out. I would like to find something to carry the spare battery in so it's contacts can't touch or short out while in the pocket. Ideally it could also be charging in my car, but no one makes anything compatible except the universal chargers and they aren't a viable option for me. There's a pretty big difference in size between the instinct battery and the Moment. After reading the post about using the instinct battery I looked at the 3 extras I have on my desk and slid one in and there's no way in hell I'd try using it. I'm sure you could get the phone to light with it but the battery is not only smaller, the contacts don't line up the same difference from the edge as the m900 battery does. It seems to me ther would be a chance of the battery sliding far enough in one direction to possibly cause it to short out. I don't know about you but if I fry this phone I'm up the creek.

I do however see a possibility of modding the instinct battery charger to fit the bigger battery but it would involve a dremel, some epoxy and some hard plastic... I bet it could be dome pretty easily but it would be straight ghetto...

identical to regular in phone-charger. it may stay at 100/90 a few minutes longer.

i like that idea a lot as when i travel i could just bring the spare'charger' and wall plug in deal and be good to go as right now i' dhave to bring 2 separate chargers. ugh. i wonder if i could get an adapter for the blackjack charger to go from its current output to our type of USB output so i could just use that as the charger.
 
did you try? Or just going off of dimensions? The dimensions posted on ebay have it no more than a millimeter off in any dimension. For $3 I figured it was worth a try, but it won't be here till next week.

They have the same thing, much smaller and cheaper. It's not ideal, but it works great on a plane, in meetings, or at a conference where a socket is not available.

On the weekends I can have my wife throw it in her purse and charge while we're running errands.

I bought this PIECE OF CRAP and it worked twice! That's it. Do not buy that thing. The battery is dead already. I'm taking it back but keeping the USB cord :-)

I thought it would be cool to have this charger I could take with me anywhere and recharge my phone. I think maybe I just got a bad one...

This whole thread is just downright sad! Somebody from Samsung or at least Sprint should be monitoring this stuff and giving feedback because customers should not have to resort to hobbling together spare parts to make their phones work better. Some of these posts even sound like mad scientist laboratories!

Bless any of you who get the awful battery situation with this otherwise fine phone figured out and even better if you do it without frying your phone.
 
I bought a car charger and a screen protector very inexpensive at e-bay...I now can recharge my phone if need be when I am on the go...
 
My blackjack battery didn't seem to last as long as the stock Moment battery.

As for price? Just look at Palm. Batteries for the Palm Centro are essentially the same as the one for the Pre and Pixi. Centro batteries (genuine OEM) are about $5. Pre/Pixi ones in black were expensive but have dropped to $10 because I think many were just buying Centro batteries on the cheap.
 
I got it in this past week and tried it a few charges so far and it works great. Battery shows 100% just as long as others do it seems. Holds battery well. Only problem is the status light is tough to tell if its done (blue) or charging a (purplish)
 
Hi everyone! I thought I'd take the time to sign up for an account to share this information. I've been following this topic since I got my Moment and was frustrated as hell like you that no external charger existed. Well I was lucky enough to find the following charger on eBay (look it up via the item # 260567686683; I have the link but I guess eBay blocks them from outside sources now?) Came straight from China but so far works great! May be similar to the one that 'gamorg02' bought on eBay since it has the similar coloring when it's charging and it finishes. I ended up buying an extra OEM battery on eBay along with this charger and so far is working well. Hopefully this seller will list more so you can have one for yourselves. :cool:

I have purchased a external battery charger for my Samsung, It can charge two batteries at the same time. (Charge one battery in the charger; Connect the charger and phone with USB data cable it can charge another battery in the phone, but it base on you phone can be charged through USB data cable)
May be it aslo will for you use . You can search it on ebay, there have lots of external battery charger for Samsung.
