Root Need help deciding on a ROM/kernel combo for my mother

Well, she has been complaining A LOT about her phone lately. Mainly the fact that it really doesn't hold a charge all too well. The 1500 mAh battery in her phone is relatively new, so that shouldn't be causing any sort of disruption. I've also checked her programs and how she has the syncing times set up, and they aren't anything different than what I would use yet her Inc lasts her usually 9-5 if that, and she doesn't even use her phone all that much.

So..... I've come here asking for help on deciding what ROM/kernel to install to it to give her the best battery life, but the stipulation is that I really want to stay as close as possible to the Sense UI because that's what she knows, and it's a long, LONG process to teach her new things. So please help me out with this.

If you need any more info, I will give it to you instantly. Also, what is the best way to root her phone? Unrevoked cubed or unrevoked forever? And her's is the AMOLED screen if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks for your help whoever answers!

I would recommend Virtuous. It's very stable and essentially stock. You can use the virtuous-kernel for improved battery life, and it doesn't require SetCPU (although you can use it if you want). 3.2 was just released, check the download page. You need HBOOT .92. Virtuous ROM

+1 for Virtuous with the custom kernel bundled with it. It's basically the stock Incredible 2.2 ROM with optimizations for better battery life. He also put an app on it called Virtuous Buddy which provides toggle switches to enable/disable apps and other parts parts of SenseUI as you see fit; such as Teeter, FriendStream, and other things that may sync often and affect battery life.

That's not really what I'm asking though. I need to find out what keeps the overall Sense UI experience almost completely intact, but with as many optimizations as possible with great battery life.

I have been using Virtuous ROM for quite some time now and it seems to work great. Haven't gotten around to installing the new 3.2 version yet though. My mom has also been using this ROM on her phone and hasn't complained. It is a very nicely stripped down SenseUI ROM.

Virtuous was the ONLY one i have flashed, after weeks of researching them all..... Virtuous has the best reviews and the least amount of bugs. and i couldnt imagine dropping a different rom in the phone

It looks like Virtuous it is! :D And you guys recommend I install the custom kernel as well, right? Also, is it easy to install a ROM/Kernel on the Inc? I currently own a Droid X and we all know that it's EXTREMELY simple to do anything because there's absolutely nothing to do to mess up.

I don't really know the first thing on what to do when it comes to the Incredible so I'll need a little bit of help.

As long as its already rooted (easy to do with UnrEVOked), you can just download ROM Manager and do it from there. If using ROM Manager, you can download the custom kernel bundled with Virtuous and it installs it all together. If you've had any experience with clockwork mod, swapping kernels isn't a problem neither, really simple.

If you install Virtuous 3.2, I believe the custom kernel is already part of the build...

That ROM is working well for me.

Ok.. So this is what I'm doing. I've yet to install anything to her phone, and the complaining has escalated!

So.. I want to install Virtuous via ROM Manager, and it says hboot .92 or whatever it is needs to be installed prior, and I wasn't sure if it was or not. Are there any tutorials on how to install that? Also, how does anyone recommend me installing this ROM? Should I delete data and wipe cache and then install or just install it over top of the currently installed stock ROM? Does it delete any of the application info?

And! Another thing! This changing of ROMs and what not makes me so VERY, VERY sad that I own the Droid X right now. Seriously, I can't do ANYTHING with that thing in comparison to what I can do with this Incredible! :(

If her major complaint is battery life, and you've ruled out the usual suspects, why not just buy her an extended battery?

Virtuous is really great, though. :) You can see which HBoot you have by booting into Hboot (power down, then press vol down and power simultaneously). A complete wipe is not normally needed when going from stock to Virtuous. I would suggest visiting the developer's web page and/or forum threads about a ROM here and at XDA before installing any new ROM, though.
