Root Need s-off

I recommend getting s-off. If you don't you'll have to fastboot flash the kernel every time and that gets really annoying.

Yeah...that is my goal, I just can't find a method that I feel comfortable using. I don't consider myself a professional at all this rooting stuff so I am looking for the most simple way to do this.

i think that as our devices get more and more sophisticated as far as tachnology goes, the process of gaining root access gets harder. also as time goes by for a device it will get harder to root with each new update that the device gets. so if you plan on rooting a phone in the future you need to either get a nexus device(which will always be rootable and easy to do cuz it is google) or get a device close to launch date.

rooting with s-on is not that bad. it is just some extra steps that you need to learn. but that will be up to you.

any ways please read and then read some more. plus you have us to help.

Is your LTE rooted with S-ON? I thought I would have had this done early this morning...but all I have been doing all day is reading and reading, I just can't find a complete method I can use.

With your hboot you have 3 choices

You can :
1) Get S-OFF using dirty Racun

2) Unlock the bootloader via htc dev (regawmod automated rooter). The limitation to s-on is that youll have to flash kernels with one of these methods http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/606748-how-install-kernels-h-boot-1-15-a.html

3) Downgrade your hboot to 1.12 and use lazypanda (this might be a little complicated because you intentionally brick the phone and then bring it back from the dead)

luckily when i got my evo lte i had hboot 1.12 though most phones peeps were gettng phones with hboot 1.15. so i have s-off now using lazy panda.

so yes rx has broken down the choices you have.

have you read this guide?
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-lazypanda-racun-unlocked.html

1) Get S-OFF using dirty Racun

I wanted to go with this method since I read somewhere you can flash a custom ROM to get Hboot unlocked. My problem is I have Windows 7 64bit and this method doesn't support that. I tried using the files from the site anyway just to see if it would work but I couldn't get passed step 6 (Relock your device (with your phone in fastboot): Open cmd from your unzipped DirtyRacun files, type: fastboot oem lock). So I don't think this is going to work for me.

This is the first method I tried before I learned that it doesn't give you S-OFF, but after clicking "ROOT ME" and it going through the steps I got an error message for something about communicating with the HTCdev.com site.

3) Downgrade your hboot to 1.12 and use lazypanda (this might be a little complicated because you intentionally brick the phone and then bring it back from the dead)

I would go with this method since it seems to take care of everything I want to do in one method...but am not sure I am brave enough to go through with it.

When you used Lazy Panda did it give you S-OFF as well as unlocking Hboot, giving you a custom recovery (that TWRP seems to sound pretty nice) and rooting the phone?

I have read that guide more times then I can imagine and I think I am confusing myself more each time I re-read it.

you can do dirty racun but you will have to either install ubuntu to your computer or run a live cd of ubuntu. how to do this is in the guide.

edit: yes it did all that, but that was done using regaw before lazy panda.

Is this method still available now if I decide to downgrade to 1.12?

so yes by downgrading your hboot, you can use section 1 of the guide. which method you use to gain root access is up to you(either regaw or zedomax). it is one of the main reason to downgrade your hboot.

yes that is the zedomax method found in the guide. be careful with htcevohacks. i have found some issues with them in the past on some of their info. this will unlock the bootloader and give you root access witha recovery. no s-off with this method.

Okay...well I guess I am going to hold off with that method then since I don't want to run into any issues. I may have to just wait until a new method comes out to take care of everything in one method for 1.15.

well unless there is another exploit that can be found, not sure how long you will have to wait. you might have to wait awhile for that. also until there is another update that makes dirtyracun useless, you might not find anybody else willing to work on an automated process to get s-off. i could be wrong though (been before:()

So if I can get DirtyRacun to work...all I need to do after that is get Hboot unlocked and then it will basically be like my old EVO 4G?

sort of. durty racun is an interesting process. you have to do commands before unlocking the bootloader and then run dirtyracun(the file) after you unlock the bootloader. just folow the steps.

Okay, well I guess I will give DirtyRacun a try in the morning...my brain is burning after all day of reading this stuff.

Yes that is all after you get unlocked/s-off

Okay, I am just now trying to figure out all this LiveCD stuff since I am running Windows 7 64bit. I know nothing about Linux at all so I am afraid I am going to make a mistake.

I run Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop. Follow the instructions in the guide for getting a live CD setup, works just fine. :)

I will recommend when you load the live CD, install the optional boot utility on the Live CD. When you boot the computer you'll get a prompt to either boot to windows or ubuntu. If you have the Live CD in the drive, choose Ubuntu and it'll boot right up. :)

PS: Keep in mind it takes a hot minute to boot to a live CD. Go get a drink, have a smoke, ETC. ;)
