Network vision & LTE rollout

I respect your position. I feel that it has everything to do with Network Vision. Our speeds are this slow because of the roll-out of this new network. The way they are rolling out the Network Vision is limiting our speeds to an extreme & making my phone (at least) unusable away from WiFi. So while I respect your position, I disagree that my 3G speeds have nothing to do with the Network Vision roll-out. It has everything to do with it.

In saying that, I don't wish to contend this point any longer. As long as the Network Vision roll-out is effecting peoples speeds & the usability of our devices I feel that people should report their experience with it. I will continue to do so until I see an improvement, or I switch networks.

Perhaps a separate thread for 3G/4G speeds during this roll-out would be appropriate? I don't know. I really appreciate your input though & I hope you have a pleasant day :)

Robert at s4gru.com has been clear that 3G fixes are also part of Network Vision.

Slow 3G speeds are being caused by not only decrepit towers but also the poor backhaul in many areas.

The Network Vision upgrade will deliver LTE and 1x Advanced as you say, but it's also a comprehensive upgrade to serve all subscribers, not just those with the new fancy phones.

While Network Vision is rolling out, non-Network Vision tower maintenance is ongoing. There's a tower about 3 or 4 miles away from me that's scheduled for maintenance quite soon because it's basically a 3G dead zone right now.

But I think that Phoenix is one of those troubled cities overall. Whenever I've been there, it's usually been atrocious in most places I've been, so they are in desperate need of the Network Vision upgrade.

However, I can back up that the expo center was never that bad before. Spotty, yes, but that was all or nothing, you had to avoid nulls.

ArmyX, I strongly recommend that you email Sprint and insist that you want Tier 3 support to respond because this is at their level. Email, unlike calling, nets you a case number and a paper trail.

While I'm sure you're experience poor 3G speeds in other places as well, terrible 3G speeds are the norm for big conventions in convention centers, regardless of carrier.

I was thinking this too, but everything I've heard suggests Phoenix is a 3G hole for Sprint. Army, did you get a chance to see what others at the con were getting on different networks? Was everyone suffering or just Sprint?

My Sister who went with me is with Verizon and she was getting normal 3G & 4G speeds.

Phoenix is a hole for Sprint. It's very frustrating because it's been this way for so long, and really for no good reason. It's hard to be a loyal customer when Verizon & AT&T have full (and fast) 4G & 3G coverage throughout the city. I am sure it's frustrating for Sprint also, as when CLEAR was in charge of 4G coverage they really didn't have any control over it.

Anyway as I said, I was just reporting speeds around town in relation to the Now Network changes. In reality the slower speeds lately are probably good news in the long run. Hopefully it means they are upgrading things. At least that's the positive spin I'm trying to tell myself :)

In the meantime, I am taking EarlyMon's good advice & writing Sprint a respectful email expressing my reasonable (and justified) frustration in relation to the Network Vision roll-out. I will probably get a generic reply like; "We assure you 4G is coming 'soon™', please be patient and thank you for being a Sprint customer." - but at least it's a good way to document & communicate with my Carrier.

According to the Network Vision schedule S4GRU has, Network Vision will likely begin rolling out in Phoenix in late 2012 or early 2013.

Another bit of info, Sprint has announced today that they have scheduled iDEN shutdown by June 30, 2013. So, that will open up room for the additional LTE on 800mhz we all desperately want (need).

Apparently, 1x-Advanced is already going live on 800mhz with the upgrades they are doing now. Once the iDEN decommissioning is complete next summer, it will allow enough room for LTE on 800mhz as well.


EDIT: Looks like Sprint just took down all the iDen/Nextel phones from the website. At least I dont see any for sale, anyway.
 
sprint needs all the help they can get.. they are so far behind..
even t-mobile has better data speeds at this time.
 
Just an fyi, in a place where I normally get 100kbs on my og Evo, today I got over 1mbps consistently on my buddies Evo lte. I'd post pics but he just sold it on Craigslist for 500 bucks.

Alright , so I've been curious and for some reason I can't find a 4g WiMAX map of sprints coverage so this thread is for you members of the 3vo users to say where your using your phone and whether or not you are within reach of 4g.

(Please do not post links to maps of coverage areas for sprint)
 
Moved to the 4G section to help with others who have WiMax enabled handsets.
can also reach a wider audience and may be able to offer help to others (and vice versa) who are looking for REAL WiMAX locations.
 
Toledo, Ohio no 4g for about three years now they have been testing a wimax tower and I don't think they will ever release it. Verizon has released one for Toledo a year ago and in my old home town small place they now have 4g for Verizon, I hear about it every day from my g.f. I am ashamed at sprint and their 4g.
