Network vision & LTE rollout

Tempted to switch back and get the EVO LTE. I see a lot of network improvements have taken place in the boston area so I am curious how accurate those reports are. Thanks in advance.

Boston is scheduled for Network Vision and LTE pretty early, as you can see here: Network Vision/LTE Deployment Running List - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

and "Two if by LTE!!!" declares Sprint 4G Rollout Updates as Boston is named as a Network Vision/LTE city for 2012 - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

S4GRU.com is probably you best bet for that kind of info.

In the "Sponsor's forum" at s4gru.com, there is a live interactive map that shows where towers are that have been upgraded (only sponsors have acess to)... I can tell you that there is quite a number of upgrades already done in Boston.. So your LTE is right around the corner.
 
I just ponied up for a sponsorship at S4GRU to see how the LA market is coming along. Just waiting for an email or a PM or something to grant me access. :)

Ben, thank you. I am on that site quite a bit and do appreciate the info that is out there. However, I am looking for some of the members here to provide feedback on their experience in the Boston area.

DANG! I'm borderline in the boondocks, there is no little icon near where I live. This royally sucks!
 
I'm about 10miles north or about 12 miles west of the 2 closest towers near me, not sure if that's close enough :( but my fingers are crossed.
 
And to think my complaint was I might lose LTE on the drive home depending on the tower range, but anything has to be an improvement on the iffy reception down here in the basement. But of the 4 4G phones on the account I'll be the only one with actual 4G coverage in my daily life.

I'm still optimistic based on existing NV sites, that I may be able to pick up a signal in the Providence, RI area. Definitely heading north... :cool:
 
lol, sweet! i live probably less than 5 miles from one tower, and there is another one less than 2 miles away from where i work!

:D hell yeahs bitches...i'm stoked.

So, does this mean that the rollout for 800Mhz will happen anytime soon?

Because if it is, then it might be worth waiting for a device that can use it seeing as the EL TEvo can't?

Now I'm really not sure what to do with my upgrade come August... :confused::p

Your right, LTEvo cannot do 800LTE, but it can do 800mhz CDMA and 1X, so you have an interesting thought. From my understanding, I dont think Sprints 800mhz LTE will become widespread till next year. According to S4GRU, Sprint is planning on deploying testing sites (FIT's) for the 800LTE late this summer (2012).
 
I wanted to share a couple concerns about my phone and see what other's are doing. First off, I started off on Nextel and force-migrated to Sprint. I never had any signal issues on the IDEN network that I do now.

For one, my signal is great outside in certain places in town. It seems like there are Sprint towers everywhere, and in one place I can see three of them in this small city. From what I can find online AT&T only has three towers in town, but no telling how many other antennas. In some places I'm the only one getting a signal, like this one bar in a basement downtown. Nobody on any other network can get a signal there, but I get near perfect reception. Data is another thing. When I've got a perfect signal I can get about 1.5 Mbps on the 3G, and though there's nothing indicating it on their website, I do get 4G coverage downtown and that's usually around 4 Mbps. When the signal isn't perfect I'm only getting about 150 kbps.

The big problem is when I'm home I get nothing. Sometimes it will show 3 or 4 bars and be roaming, but usually no service. I can step out in my backyard and get 3 bars, however. Is there something that can be interfering? At work it's similar. I can only barely get service in a few corners of the building, but go outside and it's near perfect. I'm within sight of a tower. The people on AT&T, however, get perfect reception and of course T-Mobile users are roaming.

The second concern I have is the 4G LTE rollout. While I don't get WiMax coverage at home, I do use it frequently. Would it be worth getting a LTE phone in a small city that probably won't have it until the end of the rollout? How fast will speeds really be on it and why is it really better than what we have now?

I don't mean to just rant, but I want to know how other people have dealt with these or similar issues as they've come up.

From what the article said that you posted, 800mhz LTE won't be used on devices until 2014. By that time we all should be good for our next upgrades.
 
Just got back from Phoenix Comicon. The 3G was 68kbps at the expo center. I'm a very patient and understanding person, but I am very upset about this. With all due respect this is unacceptable, Sprint. I'm at the point now where if there is no WiFi then I can't use my phone.
