Under downloads it says to flash about 5 diffrerent things:plain jane 2.0, fonts, bloatware remover, etc. My question is... because I have never done anything to my phone except flash 2.1v3...do I download all those to my computer, then put them all on my sd card at once and flash them all at once by rebooting holding power and vol up? Yeah, that seems about right. Know where all these files are on your SD card, boot into recovery, do a data wipe and all your cache and stuff.

Choose the "choose file from SD card" option. Flash the ROM. Go back to the same menu and "Choose file from SD card" again. Repeat for every file you need flashed, like fonts, themes, etc.
 
i have to admit i actually like the one click root.. i honestly think thats the way imma go. just because its one click and such.

you cant mess up a button press lol...:D

I had to root an Eris a while back. I never read instructions, or have a habit of skimming them. I tried for an hour and the commands I put into Terminal on OSX were coming back with errors.


A few drinks later, I came back, lost my skirt and purse, and went to town. Eventually, I got it to work. Turns out I had to enter the same command a few times more dsepite it giving me an error. It got through, eventually.

So if you follow the instructions, you won't mess anything up. Rooting Motorola phones are much harder.
 
i was on the fence and eventually did it. of course my luck, in 4 hours later the 1 click released. problem is rom's arent perfect. im running cynagoen v3 tazz but any froyo roms the camera refuses to work :(
 
i just about hit the ceiling when i saw there was a 1-click root method...now i'm reading it's available as an app in the market!!! guess how i'm spending my day off tomorrow!!! i can finally root and be done with this nonsense!

lol, I am not offended.. Although lazy would be a more fitting term :cool:

BTW, I went ahead and flashed the Evil Eris ROM last night...SWEET!!!
I love this phone.
 
So, this thread has definitely got me interested in rooting. I've read through it and have some additioanal questions:

1. If I do the one-click root and nothing else, will everything on my phone continue to work the same way as today? Or is there the possibility that some currently installed apps will stop working?

2. Is there a good list somewhere of the benefits or additional capabilities that come with rooting? And correspondingly a list of any gotchas to be aware of (if there are any...?).

3. I've seen the list on XDA of the different ROMs. Is there a single place to read up on these ROMs and what each one offers as well as what doesn't work? For now, it appears you need to follow each individual link and the amount of info there is pretty variable.

I can only answer this one so far. Everything will remain the same. When I did it, I had to double check to see if I was even rooted, since everything was like it was before I rooted.

1. The one-click method simply gives you superuser access. You will still have all your apps and the phone will run the same way it does now.

2. The benefits of rooting are great. You can overclock the CPU (meaning you make the phone considerably faster), install custom ROMS that improve performance as well, and the ability to run apps like app2sd where it allows you to install applications to the SD card instead of internal memory, among other benefits.

3. There are many custom ROMS out there. The thing about them is that you really have to try them to see which one you like. XDA has a thread with available ROMS but it isn't really updated. At least last time I checked it wasn't. I tried a number of ROMS before I found White Widow. I don't think a lot of people run White Widow, but it turned out to be the best option for me. My phone has zero lag and couldn't be any more perfect.

Lol, nah. Didn't help that my wife's friend was over with her Droid, and my wife was showing off her Incredible. They were talking mess, so I flashed the ROM, d/l'ed some apps, then calmly explained that my phone was $29. Odd that I woke up in the middle of the night, on the couch, still holding my phone....
 
ok so yeah i would be rooted right now but my teachers took my phone... that should b a crime, but nevertheless it is what it is.

I had to go back and see what the original topic was.
So, yesterday I was in your position. Today I'm rooted. I guess the best advice I can give is to go ahead and root. It's working out quite well for me so far. And it was very, very easy to do. I like the new ROM I got now too. Like a whole new phone. Take the plunge!:D
 
Could someone provide links to Custom ROMs that they think are good?

Also, what is the one click app called in the market?

Also is you are rooted, can you take off the stuff on the phone that was on there when you bought it?
