Root New Angle: Porting Ubuntu Touch :)

Guys, I tried over and over to get ICS and keep hitting bumps like PG. I'm going to shoot for another angle. Seeing as how the ubuntu guys actually have a porting guide, and supposedly all we need is a kernel from a stock phone, and the fact that all my pc's are now ubuntu lol... I'm gonna try to port ubuntu tonight. As far as i know, besides the ubuntu guys i'll be the first to try this. To my advantage though, i've been working with ubuntu for years and years so that will make it much easier :). The quest continues to hack the crap out of this phone until it's better than my girlfriends haha... :D

If anyone has or can make a cyanogenmod 10.1 kernel, Shoot me a link :)

So far i've only found a CM9 one for the LS840 (Sprint), not too familiar with CM builds yet but it might be a start.

For those with a samsung SIII, there's a port

Keep us updated man :p

I've been looking, since it's only a preview it's not totally fully functional yet, but if you've used ubuntu before -these guys make major releases every 6 months. It looks damn good for a first preview too. It would be finally nice to get steady unconditional updates. Maybe even without having to flash new roms anymore ;)

Yeah, I have used Ubuntu before. Used to use Ubuntu in my Networking and Security Lab class. :p Think you'll try and port it over tonight?

I gave up on ics and moved to jb. ;)

for now I would say screw ubuntu touch, it sux even on the devices ubuntu supports atm. I tried it on my N7 and was like having nothing but screenshots and nothing works.

Sleek ui tho, looks to be very promising, but atm it has ALOT of work it needs before its even worth the trouble IMO.

Now if you are waiting to get in on the ground level for developing UT for devices it might not be all that bad. But for a device you want to use daily its not worth the time to install. ;)

It would be nice to see Jb on the Connect, even ICS.

Ubuntu touch; It looks great, Personally, think it would be great as a daily. Once it gets some work as it gets closer to official release :p

Yeah, tried it on my nexus 10 finally. PG was right, Not worth porting yet. Maybe someday, but for now it's pretty taxing and incomplete on a nexus 10 and that's magnitudes of power more than the connect.
