Help New Firmware

So theres a new firmware on kies, i've updated it went on fine etc.

However, does anyone know what it changed? I've googled and i cant find a changelog or anything :-/
 
Tbh though, its only gonna fix stuff, not likely to make the phone any worse which is why i didnt see any reason not to do the update ;-)
 
Are you kidding? Do you know the number of updates that manufacturers have released with bugs and other things that did actually make the phone worse?! Happens quite often, so I do tend to be cautious, unless there is a compelling new feature, or a compelling bug fix.
 
Lol, i'm coming from the i7500, i think its more the novelty of actually getting official updates thats all.
the i7500 was abandoned by samsung immediately after release and was left badly bugged.
 
This is off the XDA from a member not sure how accurate it is ...


Two things I've noticed:

1) It apppears to fix the battery drain issue, but I've only had it on battery power for a short time. Android System was around 5% and Android OS around 3%
2) I just noticed I had a minor GPS issue (i.e. using beautiful widgets' weather app, it wouldn't change the location - it does now!).

Again, it's been on battery for about an hour, so this might not mean anything, but I was seeing the whole power drainage thing in the past days...


As for myself i haven't noticed anything different yet maybe a tad smoother, one thing is for sure its not made anything worse...
 
ive also noticed that my ram usage is waaaay down (its 310 before i hit clear ram then drops to 280)

However one possible bug, my music just randomly started playing no apps showing didnt stop till i hit clear ram.
 
ok for some reason an old bug from the i7500 just popped up on here, i just loaded a lot of music on there via drag & drop, its randomly set one of my mp3's as my email ringtone :-/

Edit:
Its also removed the facebook pop ringtone that the facebook app adds, which was what i had set for my email. This may be due to me deleting the media folder then re creating it with a new folder structure.

Everything is fine here just checked both issues and all is ok
 
Does it have anything to do with the camera update thats been reported as showing up in samsung apps?
 
dunno if thats a camera update, it was only a few k, and it came down at the same time as a samsung apps update...

the update was com.sec.android.app.samsungapps.una doesnt look like a camera app.
 
To download this firmware do I need to install kies, or can I do it through kies air?

The samsung updates through samsung apps is something different I presume?

Yes you need the wired kies, and yes its a different type of update, the other one appears to be just an update for the samsung apps & security side of things.
 
Trying to update to the new firmware via kies and it downloads and then gets to the bit when it is about to update the phone and it comes up with an error message "dll failed" and hangs before crashing out. Then have to reboot the phone and it comes back up as before (thankfully). Anybody had this same issue?

Yep, just trying again now....I have just reinstalled kies with a slightly different version than the one I used before, not sure if that is going to make a difference, im on 69% so far.

The exe I used this time is : http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...5/20110512115717796/Kies_2.0.0.11044_11_3.exe

Suggest you uninstall samsung kies and the samsung usb driver and reinstall this and start again.

Will update in a minute if its successful.
 
This time I got failed to convert to upgrade mode. What a load of sh1t this kies is, coming from HTC why they cant do OTA updates I dont know!
 
well after that rant, it worked the next time round, I rebooted in between, so for the guy having issues, uninstall current version, reinstall with that exe above, reboot and try then.
 
I've just completed the update and one thing it does do is it removes the 2 Samsung Apps updates which the phone has out of the box.
(retail demo thingy and invisible one)

Think its a wired update cos its only minor, so its mainly for the advanced users(eg us) the ota updates are for major updates eg new OS or big patches.
