Root New Fresh Evo 1.0.1

well...now having a problem (probably caused by myself not leaving good enough alone lol).

went from 0.5.3 to 1.0.1 perfectly as mentioned earlier in the thread. did a back up using clockwork right after I installed it. then couldnt leave well enough alone and installed fresh toast fps unlock kernel #26 on top of 1.0.1. decided I didnt want to have the "experimental" kernel but now I dont know how to correctly remove the kernel upgrade.

I tried to restore my backup 1.0.1 that I created but its giving me a MD5 sum error. so I tried to go even farther back to a base copy of 0.5.3 and that worked and was able to install it and restore a 0.5.3 backup I had. but now its still giving me MD5 sum errors when trying to upgrade to 1.0.1 either using my backup copy of 1.0.1 or trying to reinstall it fresh with clockwork.

any ideas how to get past the MD5 sum error in this case?

Go back into fresh updater and you can download the 1.0.1 kernel and flash it. Kernels remain the same when you flash a ROM so restoring a backup wont fix it.

FWIW, I am running the #26 kernel and it is SO fast, smooth, and my battery life is STUNNING!! You can go back to the 1.0.1 kernel whenever you want, maybe give it a day or two and see what you think??

Can i load fresh 1.0.1 right over ota rooted 1.47 ? Well i mean after i clean data & cash can i just load rom and go from there with the new radio and be ok or do i need to do more. Just wondering cause i see people talking about a kernel and i have no clue what that is. Still trying to figure out the droid world after playing with windows for so long. t/u:cool:

was able to install the 1.0 kernel, and then flash 1.0.1 again. BUT its still giving an MD5 sum error when trying to restore my 1.0.1 from BEFORE I tried to update to kernel #26. Any way to get back to the original kernel before I upgraded it?

Download the kernel from fresh updater and flash it. No need to worry about the backup you did.

Yes, do a wipe and flash the ROM. You don't need to worry about a kernel if you aren't interested in one at this point.

sorry, maybe im not being clear enough. I would like to install the backup I did because it had all of my apps and settings retained after upgrading to 1.0.1. Thats why I did the backup in hopes of not needing to install all apps and settings again from scratch.

omg!!! i use to average 5 hours battery moderate usage on .5.3. i upgraded to 1.0.1 8.5 hours ago and am just now at 70% battery life. THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!! thank you flipz!!!!!!

are you guys using OC widget to control the CPU or just the 1.0.1 ROM that flipz has provided us? Im still using OC widget and Im wondering if I even need to bother using it.

another question/concern, can anyone confirm wireless N is enabled and my "hard" keys are not lighting up? didnt notice until now since its getting dark in here.

Sorry Ryan, I misunderstood the question.

I don't know how to get past the error you are using. I know you wont like the answer but I would do the following:

-Reinstall the apps on your own.
-Once done, download titanium backup and use it.
-Should you ever run into the problem again it wont bother you a bit.

thanks for your help. Im back to where I was, just a bit of a pain in the butt. still working out the kinks of the "hard key" lights not working. and Im assuming wireless N is enabled but dont know for sure yet. had to reinstall wireless tether and so far so good.

Edit: saw in the change log from 0.5.3 that wireless N is enabled but still on 2.4GHz

Glad you got it worked out Ryan. Be sure to get titanium backup, just in case. It's a great program and the free version is just fine!!

Are you using SetCPU? I just flashed 1.0.1 using a fresh install from 0.5.3 (I know I didn't have to do it, but I figured it'd be a cleaner install and everything's pretty easy to restore with Titanium Backup).

I was going to try it without tweaking with the clock speed and see if I can get some good battery life. What have you done so far?

I can't speak for dgaf98 but I've had a similar jump in battery life.

I flashed 1.0.1 and the BFS fps unlock (#26) kernel. I am not using any kind of overclocking software at all. The kernel undervolts your CPU when the phone is sleeping and saves TONS of battery.

How do i get the app back? It works for me and would like to still have it but after installing fresh it is gone. T/u for the help.

There's a folder on the SD card that has all the original sprint apps apks that were removed. You can install them from there.

Do i need to do any other updates \ tweeks for this rom on the phone i see where it mentions a few changes on xda? I did loose a few pics that i took the other day but so far that is all. Just loaded fresh last night.

went from 0.5.3 to 1.0.1 with new radios and wimax then tried wimax fix and it killed my 4g. then wiped flash 1.0.1 and everything force closed way to much. rolled back to 0.5.3

Did you try the starting over method of flashing the new radios?

How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

I used this method when I went to DC 3.2.3 from Fresh 0.5.3. I think I read somewhere that this is currently the only proper way to flash the new radios.

ok finally got wimax to work... now is anyone else getting a force close when trying to use the wireless tether thats included with the rom. it will open but when i "tap" to enable" it force close's immediately. had no issues while on 0.5.3

**update*** i figured it out. seems like the binaries and configs are not installed correctly when the rom is installed. un-installed and re-installed and it works like a charm
