new fresh rom....

Basically, the donate version allows you to automate the backup/restore process and repair the links to the Market.

The "backup user apps + system data" process is the big time saver by restoring your home pages. Should you have problems after flashing a new ROM, you would want to use a different feature omitting the "system data" when you restore.

Just FYI to all, do not select system data. When it installs the [Desktop] HTC Sense 1.0 ....which is what I read to be the home screens however once it restores that, you get a force close on the launcher and have to reflash again. Oh well, I can setup my homescreens again.

After - a few days the stock messaging program and keyboard remains laggy in the new fresh (which is kind of a big thing)... This was faster in the DC roms. A lot of people mentioned this on the SMS board too...

But otherwise all is till good.

So if I'm wanting to flash this ROM, but I'm not wanting to lose all of my data (unlike last time....) for my apps, what are my options?

Titanium backup?

Does this back everything up to the SDcard and essentially run like apps2sd? After reading up very briefly about apps2sd, it seems like the drawbacks if it fails could be immense - far worse than just losing all of my data by wiping for a ROM flash...

So what are my options here, if any?

Appreciate any feedback.

is it me or does the keyboard swipe not work in landscape while texting? i cant seem to get it to work properly and there is no other way to minimize the keyboard.

There is option within the keyboard setting to swipe down and it close the keyboard. I had tried it few times and it work. But I'm used back button which close it anyway.

I am seriously thinking about taking the plunge on the 2.0d

Couple of questions for those using:

Is there much improvement in available apps?

Will SWYPE work on 2.0d?

Biggest issues?

Thanks.

Is there much improvement in available apps? there are a LOT of apps that are available to 1.6+ that are not available 1.5.. so yes, there is an improvement in available apps.

Will SWYPE work on 2.0d? not sure, I don't have Swype (wish I did though) It should work on any 2.1 ROM. it's not a Hero only app.

Biggest issues? SOME people have reported audio issues. I personally have not had any issues at all. Even though there is a possibility of audio issues, Flipz has a patch for that already.

Thanks.

reply in bold above..

Alright.. help me out here.

I am rooted and running Fresh 1.1 now.

To do this I need to

Reboot to RA: How do I do this?

Wipe and factory reset: How do I do this?

I just want to be sure before I start on this.

Thanks.

And after I flash this.. do I need to flash the new radio?

so one major issue I notice, not sure if anyone else is having this, but my Facebook only pulls the first 38 people (stopping at the name David) and nothing else. This keeps me from linking my contacts to facebook contacts which is one of the features I really like on this phone. Anyone seen this and know of a fix?

Please read the root guide for how to reboot into recovery. As for wiping, you do it from recovery. Choose wipe, then choose data. If you were using apps2sd you will likely need to wipe ext as well. You do not need to flash a new radio. Follow the directions Flipz posted in the ROM itself and you will be fine.

I had this happen at first too. To fix, I removed my FB account, rebooted, re-added it, sync'd it and waited. It took a while, but eventually they all loaded.

When I do this, I have two options, Facebook for HTC Sense and then just Facebook. Which account do I want to add?

One last question:

Can any of the Kitchen versions be used to do Fresh 2.0d ?

Short answer = no. The kitchen does not "support" 2.1 yet.

To be honest, I believe it was the Sense one. Either way, it will only let you do it with one regardless of which you try.

Thanks. That worked. Actually didn't even have to do a reboot. I used Facebook for HTC Sense just for the record. I now think my 2.1 works perfectly.

Even my You Tube app works again. Now just have to get my Sprint TV back on here.

Glad it worked. From what I've read, you may (i say may because I haven't tested it) be able to use the new kitchen to push the sprint tv back on there.

kitchen isn't needed to "do" Fresh (or any ROM) just copy to the root of the SD Card, reboot into RA (power off...hold Home and power on holding home until you get into RA) wipe>data/factory reset...then flash zip...select Fresh 2.0d and that's all there is to it.

as far as is the radio update required.. no.. it works without the update. I will say that with the update I appear to get a little bit better battery life. it also resolved my location issue using Airave.

Too bad you weren't able to use the "system data" restore function. It just depends on what rom you are coming from and going to. When it works well, it sure makes jumping from old rom to new rom easier.
