Root New guy

that is correct, or at least rename it, you likely wont have a need for it again but im anal about that stuff and keep everything lol

No no that pc36img.zip file is not flashed from recovery it is flashed from hboot. It is named incorrectly though. If you really want to continue to amon ra 2.3 recovery instead then you would change the name to just "PC36IMG" and go back to hboot and let it update. That will change your recovery from clockwork 2.6.0.1. to amon ra 2.3. The biggest issue with clockwork 2.6.0.1 is that it may not completely wipe everything if you ask it to. HOWEVER, if you arent flashing different roms then you have no need to be wiping. So making the switch is up to you.

You cant flash a new recovery from your current recovery...that just wouldnt work, thats why you need to be in hboot and why the file hsa to be name exactly, just wanted to clarify that a little

yeah, that .zip.zip thing will eff it up every time lol... but if youre not gonna change your rom, then clockwork is just fine :) BUT DO A BACKUP!!!! i cant stress enough how important that is... have at least 1 good restore pt. and put a copy of that restore file on another device so you have a backup of your backup. Sounds like the redundancy department of redundancy, but to cover ones a$$, its a good idea

have you made it to amon ra recovery yet? I assume not because i anticipate a what do i need to check to back up question lol.

i got to the black screen with yellow letters etc. i am downloading wifi tether for root users to see if it works.

btw, you might wanna check out the roms in our signatures.... matt is using one of the best sense based roms, mik froyo is also pretty darn good etc etc, im using an AOSP rom(Cyanogenmod 7 aka CM7) and there are some certain advantages to both, but now that youre rooted, you can play and frolick in the land of roms :) happy hunting, and congrats on rooting homey :)

LOL ok but make a back up when you are done...for ths first one back up BSDCW, a complete back up basically. If you ever make another one you can go wih just BSD but we have to have one with your wimax keys and im including /cache because some people dont wipe in between restores.

Im pretty sure I understand whats been done here but im going to continue to expand my rooting knowledge.. thx a ton guys.

Im old school windows guy and havent hardley touched a pc in in the last 3 yrs other then email etc. learning new OS is tough but i have a good foundation now thx again

Can't say for sure never used it. I would say yes if using the hot spot...the tether as I understand it will only tether one our two devices. The hot spot can support more. All I can say for sure is try it lol

Lord I missed alot between leaving work and getting home! Glad to see you got it. Amon will make you a little more comfortable with recovery as everything you do(wipe, backup, restore, flash) is done manually in recovery.

I believe the tether supports up to 5. I know I have had 3 on mine when my internet at home was flaky. Hotspot supports up to 8 I believe. There are roms like Mikfroyo that have the hotspot hacked so that is always an option if you decide on a custom rom.

Nandroids you can put on your computer(you can rename them as long as there are no spaces and no odd characters). You should keep one or 2 good ones on your phone in case something happens and you need to restore one to get a functional phone back.

I have not done anything with the google system files so I am not sure about those. I would be interested to find out what exactly the purpose is of those files and being able to backup and restore. Maybe something to do with google apps?

That's my thought but I've never backed those up either.
