Root New HTC evo 4g owner 3 questions

Hello everyone! I've got 3 question that I hope to get answered.

1) If I decide to root my phone, what can I then do that I can't now that makes it worth the "risk"?

2) Any idea why I can't watch a recorded show on my tv using the mini hdmi cord I bought? It intermittenly works on my Asus hd monitor but still not good.

3) Does anyone know where droid tv stores it movies? I figured maybe I could copy them to my laptop and watch them there?

Thanks for everyones help in advance. Also my apologies if this isn't the correct board.

Welcome to Android Forums!!!

You've got a great phone! I will move this thread to the HTC Evo 4G sub-forum so other owners can chime in. And there are a lot of great info on rooting and other topics already!

1)well when you are rooted, your phone is completely open to change or add whatever you want. it has a huge dev community behind the phone. these devs are amazing. they have now ported sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 onto the evo like what the evo 3d now has. most will have all bloatware removed. and you can theme and custimize your phone a lot easier. check out this thread:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/322488-super-mario-bros-theme.html. just head on over to the rooting subforum and read the stickies at the top of the forum. especially read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide.

2)yeah you need an app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.teamwin.hdmi&feature=search_result should work on both rooted and unrooted phones

3)i believe all media is stored in the dcim folder.

Hello again. Thanks for the links to those threads. Here's my quick story. I'm a full time college student but would really like to root my phone for the ability to download the mentioned app for watching on tv and to help with the battery. The problem is I have no job so if I screw this up (I know it's for dummies but I've managed to screw up easy things before) I'm out a phone and can't have that. Here's the question: Is anyone on here willing to help me put my phone back to how it is now (stock) if I fail the whole rooting thing? I'm talking baby steps since I've got to have my phone. Thanks in advance again all.

yes, that is not a problem. we have awesome forum members here who are experienced and freindly enough to walk you through the steps. however, right now you can't root your evo if you have gingerbread installed on your phone. here is a thread as to why:You Can't Root Your Gingerbread 2.3.3. Evo....Just Yet if you have froyo then we can get you rooted.

as far as bricking your phone. it really is pretty hard to do. main thing is not to rush things and do some research before diving in to something you do not know. this forum is the best place to go if you have questions and such. my recommendation is to read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html and then read it again.
