New kies firmware 2.3.4

ah yes i see the dots etc i thought u were meaning something else :D maybe u could check out the swype site for a way of downloading different languages?

Can anyone please help me? i upgraded my firmware a couple of days ago : PDA:KF4. PHONE:KF2. CSC:KF1. Kies now opens a lot quicker on my PC where previously it was pretty sluggish but when i attempt to do ANY function such as transfer video/music/photos from PC to the phone or vice versa, the software just freezes and i have to use the task manager to shut it down. this even happened when I tried to access the help function on the Kies taskbar. I suppose I could just ignore Kies completely and transfer direct from the PC if that's possible. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

yeah i suggest u ditch kies. use Odin to update firmware via this guide

[ROM + Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KF1/2/3/4/, KG1/2/3/5/6/7 Download - xda-developers

i recommend KG5 (OXA Poland) which is the newest official firmware, its android 2.3.4 and much better than wat kies just updated ur phone with :)

for transfering data, just plug in ur phone via usb and u should see it appear in ur Computer as a device. if u plug in ur phone and u see "MTP connected" in ur phone's notification bar.. u should see it as a device on ur computer
if u see a USB connected, u have to select it and choose to mount ur memory to the computer, and then u will see it as a removable drive. then its just drag n drop afterwards :) hope it works for u! oh and welcome to the forum :D

Hi,
I started Kies the other day to backup my phone before I went on holiday and noticed that there was a new Firmware available for my Galaxy S2 (Orange branded, KE2 (ORA) ). I decided at that time not to install it since I was just about to head off. I'm back today but when I fire up Kies, it shows me what the current firmware is (PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KE2 / CSC:KE2 (ORA) ), but doesn't either tell me I have the latest firmware or give me the option to update. If I right-click the phone in the sidebar, the "Firmware update" box is greyed out. I definitely didn't imagine the update option last week :), does anyone know how I can update my phone now?

Yep the extra line is missing for me and the option is greyed out too.

So after journey to the mystery world of the internet, long one, i didnt find finnish keyboard, nor finnish swype, nor finnish t9 predictive text library. Where to go next?

and to post the original info which i think would be useful to others, i mentioned earlier than on KG2/3/6 i was getting average battery life of 14 hours.. with average use or even low use.. on KG5, i get around 16 hours of very heavy use, or 24 hours of average use

Heshanj,

After following a number of your posts for a while and also become increasingly frustrated with Kies, I think I have found the minerals to update firmware with ODIN.

I have backed up all with my backup pro. And saved stuff to sd card.

Im gonna go for KG5 as you suggest its best..can you tell me if there is any difference between OXA Poland and the stock kernel link?

Also, if I was to flash back to my current firmware which is kE7, will I be able to revert back to using kies?

Cheers

Stock kernel link only contains the kernel. OXA Poland link contains kernel, firmware, modem, and CSC. If you are updating the firmware then you need the OXA Poland link.

actually, u can revert back to kies as soon as ur region has an update newer than KG5, as KG5 is official and kies will detect it. of course, there will have to be a newer update first. but if u flash back the stock KE7 firmware, u can definitely revert back to using kies (i doubt u ever will) :D

The problem with "official firmware through Kies" is that the answer varies depending on where you are and with which carrier. One user may not receive an update until months after others.

Use Kies: update only when Samsung and your network provider decide to make an update available.

Use Odin: updates are at the user's discretion and can be to any GS2 firmware.

Hi, I want to upgrade to 2.3.4 on Virgin/Bell cause I'm tired of waiting for their release for the S2. If anything goes bad and I want to reload 2.3.3 on Kies what do I enter for password in recovery window ? I was never given any password. Thanks
