OK, so everything seems to function fine now. I have no explanation really. I tried rebooting many times, and other suggestions from this thread but none really worked. That is, until it just started working normally after several hours for paid apps.
I can only guess that for some reason it took a few hours for the new market to fully sync with my account perhaps.
In any case, thanks Frisco for all the help and suggestions. Glad to be back in full working order with the 2.2 Market
