Root New Optimus V, trouble rooting

Kunawai, you can fix your nerfed permissions from the terminal. Here is a guide on the command you'll need. Restoring ought to fix it, but might be a heavy handed approach to the problem.
OK, been a busy week, finally getting back to the task here....
Brotherswing, I think I'm following you (& AndyOpie150)for the most part, but where I got lost is at the guide listed above. I get that I need to use Terminal Emulator, but I'm lost on the exact commands I need to use to change SU's permissions using this method.

Basically, I'm stuck at "chmod ? ? ?"

You guys have been awesome, thanks for all your help so far!! I'm determined to crack this puppy.

Oh, sorry. I just gave you the mode, not the entire command. Try this...
chmod 6755 /system/bin
If you get a file not found error, try
chmod 6755 /system/xbin

"Unable to CHMOD /system/bin: Operation not permitted"
"Unable to CHMOD /system/xbin: No such file or directory"

Try typing "su" without the quotes first. Then the command I gave you. I must apologize, I had assumed that step. That's what Andy pm'ed me about.

There needs to be su at the end as you are trying to change the permission of the su file which is in the bin folder, which is in the system folder.
you still need the su at the beginning to get superuser root privileges.

That is what I was trying point out in my pm.
Sorry I was not more to the point.

Thanks guys! But guess what - it looks like something happened either to the root access or SU, because now I'm not getting the "#" anymore! I'll start over from scratch and see what happens this time....

Try pulling battery and holding power button for 30 sec.
Then install battery and boot up. You should see you # in the emulator after you type in su and hit the enter key.
Then type in:
chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
Then hit the enter key.

When installing Busybox, if install to /system/bin fails (which it might),select the alternate install location to the /system /xbin

I got:

su
permission denied

The other command got me "read only file system"
Looks looks its not rooted anymore, I'll start over....

This seems to be popping up more often these days. How old is your phone, Scrambles? It may be tied to the (possibly) locked boot loader that Bigsupersquid noticed last week. I'm also starting to think this process needs to be done in one shot to minimize the possibility of losing root before finishing.

As far as I can tell, this is probably a very new release. I just bought it off of Amazon brand new in box for $95. Shipped on Dec. 7th.

There are subtle differences in the generations of the OV. Even though the overall specs are the same, components from different manufacturers are used. Sometimes this can cause issues, and this is what we're trying to overcome with your phone.
