New to Android

Hello everyone, found this site through slickdeals. I am new to android, don't really know much about anything when it comes to android, that's why I'm here.

Will be setting up an Android Eris on pageplus, replacing a Verizon Touch Pro, so I guess the Eris should be quite a step up. I know it's not the latest and greatest but the price was right for what I needed.

My main concern is trying to control data usage on the Eris. Also, I guess I need to learn more about widgets and stuff. Hoping to gets tons of new info here so that I am not ignorant when I start using this phone.

If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears :)

Thanks for reading. I look forward to learning from all of you here.

what are you data limitations?

even with constant pandora streaming (daily at the gym) I have trouble breaking 1gb a month. went on a trip once and tethered for about two weeks straight (even downloaded a steam game) and that was still under 3gb.

I think he is limited to 50 Megs with their top-end plan.

I'm not sure what to recommend for monitoring - on VZW, you can use the My Verizon app to keep tabs on data usage, but that relies on data from Verizon (it doesn't collect the data straight from the phone) - perhaps PagePlus has a similar app?

Several apps (free and paid) on the Market for monitoring data usage, etc. that might be helpful to the OP:

PhoneUsage (free)
Network Monitor (free)
3G Watchdog (free)
Traffic Monitor Widget (free)

Cheers!

Don't quote me on this sice I've not used PagePlus, but throwing this out for thoughts -

WiFi doesn't use minutes/data....

Thanks everyone, yes, I am limited to 50 megs a month. I just don't want to lose it all in one day :)

I'm also on the P.P. 1200 Tnt w/ 50 MB data. I highly reccomend 3G Watchdog. Once you set it up, it constantly tells you how much of your 50 MB for that month you have left.

Also, you can use a 3G toggle switch to keep data turned off when you're not using it. I keep mine off, and just turn it on when I need it for something.
