welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!
you will need this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

ICS will never be available for the evo 4g officially. so all you need to do is root the phone and then flash an ICS rom of your choice.

not sure why you unrooted the phone. if you are having issues, you have us:D

unrooting a phone is not necessary unless you are taking it in for service or taking an upgrade. there are plenty of troubleshooting that we can do that an unrooted phone cannot.

Agreed. If your phone is having issues, you can actually do more with it being rooted/s-off than you can with it on a stock setup. This bunch is super helpful and OCN is actually a robot and doesn't sleep (not many know this), so you basically have 24/7 access to online help.

I HAVE DONE ALL THREE, SO THAT IS ALL UP TO YOU. THE COMMANDS I THINK ARE SIMPLE ENOUGH. JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU READ AND DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE GOING IN HEAD ON.

edit: sorry i need to get out of my terminator mode.

if you truly want to be completely s-off then either taco root or captain's method will do the job.

again read all three and see which one you think you can do. and please ask as many questions as you like.

when i try the first one it says cannot load recovery.img and when i try the pc36img it says no or wrong img
for the ADB method:
did you extract the recovery.img from the file listed? is your phone in fastboot?

and for the PC36IMG method:
did you name it correctly? it needs to be exactly PC36IMG (in caps) and you need to make sure about no extra .zips in the name as windows hides extensions.

my phone is not in fastboot i did extract the img and it is renamed correctly

from the adb method:
ADB command method
1.download amon ra 2.3 from here:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
2.extract the recovery.img file and place it in the android folder you created when unlocking your bootloader.
3.on your phone after you have unlocked your phone you should be in the bootloader menu screen, select the fastboot option
4.on your computer press and hold shift while right clicking the android folder.
5.select open command window here option (windows 7)
6.enter command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
congrats!!!!!! you have just installed amon ra 2.3

step 3 you need to be in fastboot.

here you go

C:\android>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (3544 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.030s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...

ok just to make sure, but you have the bootloader unlocked, correct?

i do i attempted it one more time it worked this time any ideas why?

nope. no idea. but glad that it worked this time around. now you can either flash the su file and stay on stock or you can go and get your flash on:D

i would really suggest that you flash mikg3.11 it is waaaaaaaaaaay better then stock. but that is up to you.
