new xbl dashboard

Could the dash update be responsible for my Xbox not reading discs 100%? Either that or the Black Ops disc did something because my games won't load until after about 20 minutes of restarts and opening and closing the tray. Sometimes if Im lucky it will work after a couple tries but rarely and the console never starts straight into a game. Ive tried clearing the cache and taking off the hdd with games on and off the HDD but still discs weren't read.

Maybe you guys know something about this before I call into xbox support and waste 30 minutes on procedural steps just to confirm the problem i already know.
 
Sounds like hardware issue, not software. I have no issues with my games, and I've never heard of anyone else either.

Definitely not the dashboard. Sounds like your disc laser is effed up. Just tell them you have RRoD and *voila*. Otherwise, they will tell you that you need to pay $100 to have it repaired.
 
Yeah, i refuse to pay for a problem like this. Thanks guys.

Will be my 5th Xbox yay.
1) stolen
2) RROD
3) Disc drive (my replaced elite lasted 2 hours)
4) Current box, disc drive again
5) ???

Im going to use this as an excuse to get myself a 360 S too. Damn...keep feeding the beast.
 
Track, if you do get a slim, I suggest you install your game the first time it hits the drive.

It's the very first thing I do when I get a game.

It's a ton quieter and I think it cuts down on the heat substantially

Heat would only be an issue if you have the 360 in a poor airflow compartment but I agree with the installation of new games.
 
I actually do install all new games right away because of the leaf blower disc drive. My problem with the current box still happens with games that are installed because they need the disc to verify authenticity or something like that. And Xbox support has been no help because eventually my games do work after 20 minutes of restarts, HDD removals, disc changes. When it does finally work they're like...Thank You DONE. Im seriously going to go rage on them this next time.
 
I liked the orig dashboard, I didnt like the NXE one at first but I actually thinks its better too. I havent seen the new one yet.

Nevermind, just saw it on youtube.....it looks like NXE just plainer...

I can't play a game with the old lady sleepin on couch unless it's installed on hdd. Isn't the slim supposed to be mad quieter? Is it true??

All in all i like feel i will get used to the new layout, it's a bit bright and i'd rather they didn't change it but i have no complaints.. (kinda of like when i got 2.2 on my phone)lol

I bought the theme so long ago that I truthfully can't recall how much it is but it wouldn't surprise me if it were anywhere in the vicinity of 200-320 ms points. Yeah, the 360 S is a helluva lot more silent over the older model 360's.

So is there a theme 'section' in 360 menu's? Never even thought of looking into this. I just got a ps3 and noticed it was easy as hell to just set a pic as a wallpaper which is cool

Yeah, if you go to Game Marketplace then go to Themes & Gamerpics, you can browse through them all there (I think it's listed by popularity or by title name)

Hopefully they are, that would be frikkin sweet!! Let me/us know when you find out since i won't be having time to even turn the 360 on for a couple days

So i saw the section where you can buy the armor, game themed pets, etc. While looking at them there was a cool wallpaper related to what you were browsing through. But i saw no way to actually just get the wallpaper(i'm guessing that's what is meant by theme). I gave up after 10mins or so cause the 4year old wanted to watch transformers for the upteenth time. Am i not looking in the right place?

Doesn't sound like it. Whenever you are on XBL next, go to Game Marketplace > Add-ons > Themes & Gamerpics.
 
I really like the dashboard. It feels really welcoming and it's really nice to look at. I like how everything is organized.

You can also install themes directly from the PS3 browser
I am using a lovely OSX theme :)

Me too. A lot of people are complaining about the ads but I personally like the fact that I can check out ads on the dashboard. There have been occasions where I have actually watched a few of the ads posted b/c they interested me (which I might add is rare).
 
I don't notice any of the lag anyone else has experienced, and I like all the features they've added, but as far as how it looks I don't like it at all. It looks like they downgraded instead of updated. I feel like I'm looking at Windows 98 when I've been using Windows XP for the last few years. It's awful.
