Root Newest Android Market (July 15th, 2011)

You have to understand that Velocity is so custom that it's scary. There are so many tweaks and improvements made by the dev team that it's to be expected that some things may not work correctly when they're expecting a stock rom.

Okay, I haven't tried the market new marked yet but running fix permissions as suggested by Dots seems to helped Maps with "use wireless networks" enabled in location & security settings.

I didn't know this thread was a Velocity critique, I thought it was about getting the new market loaded and working. If its that important to have the new market, right now that means going back to stock Me, I'm very reluctant to downgrade back to stock just to get a new market GUI, V1.1 offers way too many benefits to drop it now. If that means I don't get the new market interface, oh well. Now that's only my opinion and you and everyone else are entitled to your own, and that's fine too. What I want to know is, will there be a way to stay as custom as some of us are and still get the new market app to work properly. Again if that answer is "NO" then I guess the old market is fine for me.

Try dots suggestion http://androidforums.com/ally-all-t...roid-market-july-15th-2011-a.html#post2953973http://androidforums.com/2953973-post11.html let us know how it turns out. I would but haven't been updated to the new market yet.

I downloaded the new market apk from a link in this thread, installed it and have had zero problems with it on velocity 1.1. Same with the newest pandora, google maps, swifkeyX. All these apps you guys are having problems give me zero trouble at all. I'm oc'd to 768mHz, smartass gov, and running only a few apps(maybe 20, tops). Zero issues. No offense to any of you, but seeing all of your problems and how completely unrelated they seem to be, I'm thinking it might be user error somewhere. *shrug* Just my 2 cents worth.

Exactly. I have no issues with the Ally on Velocity 1.1.

Just wiped and reflashed velocity 1.1 Nothing restored, a true "clean" install. First thing installed, Google Maps...force closes. Next, Pandora...fail. Next, the new market apk...fail.

Maybe you are just lucky! :)

Velocity 1.1 was built from a different source i believe since running all the apps we love to have usually dont work. Examples, netflix, spb 3d launcher, new market place, swiftkey x

Aside from pandroid, Google Maps, SwiftkeyX, and various games won't run properly under Velocity 1.1 either but will under stock 2.2.2.
I know it might be hard for some to accept but I have the right to run what I choose on my phone. Sorry your stunned with disbelief.

If you research back to my problems with my online banking app (you can use the above link), per post 3 you can edit your build.prop file line:

ro.build.version.sdk=10

to

ro.build.version.sdk=8

As noted in that post, this sets the SDK flag for the OS at the proper level for Froyo, as level 10 is the SDK flag for Gingerbread.

This may have also been fixed in the flashable ZIP fix for the update notification as that modified the build fingerprint in the build.prop file (don't have the link for that off-hand, but shouldn't be hard to find), but at any rate doing this should fix some compatibility issues for you as I have not seen any of the above mentioned problems on my phone and have been running Google Maps, Pandora, Netflix, etc. plus each released update of those apps just fine since that post on May 10th, 2011 and this is the only major mod I've done to my phone since flahsing Vel1.1.

I suspect that this will also allow the new market apk to run on Velocity 1.1, however I have not had time to test it out, maybe this evening I will...

i edited my build.prop file a while back maybe thats why i have no issues with the market also my maps runs fine too. Velocity 1.1

i can confirm that changing the build.prop from 10 to 8 does make the new market and Maps work without problem. the new market is a little slow it seems though.

also. that change seemed to make my widgetlocker notification icon change from one that seems made for a black bar back to one that seems made for a white or grey bar. maybe widgetlocker senses what version is supposed to be on and chooses the icon appropriately. well i hate the new icon but i'm not going to change it back.

anyways, i'm re-downloading swiftkey x to see if it will work without crashing now.

Does anyone know what the Update #38 from the Velocity scripts that updated Build.Prop changed? it was for the purpose of stopping the OTA update notification. By changing back to 8 from 10, will the notifications return or is that a different line?

UPDATE:
Swiftkey X does indeed work now. Has not crashed, before though I couldn't even open the keyboard after setting it up. So now it works. Great call on the 8!

I only wish the change didn't also revert my notification icons back to froyo, i liked the GB icons better.

thank you! :d

When I edit the build prop to 8 it changes its self back to 10. Not sure but I think I am doing something wrong?

If you edit on your phone, you will need a tool that can edit with root access such as root explorer...I booted to recovery and mounted /system to my PC to edit mine, I prefer editing files on PC vs. on the phone.

I will also confirm that editing the .prop file works! Maps, new Market, and even Pandora 1.5 work perfectly. I have to note that it took me forever to figure out how to get the .prop file to save post-edit. You have to check in the settings the permissions before you do anything. /noob

Works fine with the build prop. To be completely honest, I like the old market much better. This seems much much slower, the fonts almost look incorrectly sized, the layout sucks in comparison, and it almost seems really amerature in terms of quality. My advice is to stick with the old market.

Not only that but the Netflix app works quite well after you change the build.prop. Sometimes it's "blocky and slow" but that usually clears up after a few minutes.... Now maps for me after a fresh flashing of velocity had the old force close come up when maps wasn't running, so I just ran the fix permissions and that worked (I have another Ally that I use to "test" this stuff out on before messing mine up and it worked no problems, some ally's are tempermental I guess)
