Root NexTheme ESE81 R3 Release (4/21/10) - New Goodies!

Alright...I've been late to the last two parties...not this time. Thanks for the update Fab! I'm installing right now! :D

Alright, the new version is up. The important differences are as follows:

-Maps is no longer included. Get it from the market. This should eliminate all FC issues.

-I'm using P3Droid's kernel by default now. It allows for Wired tethering, as well as wireless. It defaults to 600MHz, so no boot loop issues, but goes up to 1GHz. More of his kernels can be found in the OP.

-I've included a skinned HTC_IME keyboard by default. You can enable it by long pressing any text entry field and 'select input', then 'touch input'. IMO, it looks really nice. Credits will be posted in the OP for the creator.

-I yanked the black Mms.apk from Cyanogenmod. It's the default program with a dark background, as well as custom notifications, etc. Eliminates the need for Handcent for me, at least (no pop-up though, if you need that).

I think that's it...

*Screenshots have been updated for the new keyboard and mms

Thanks Fab! Your last release was running too well (I was getting bored). Just installed this one :D

do I need to Wipe data/cache ETC to install over your 1st version?

I would guess that you don't need to although I would. Just make a backup of your current ROM and then try to apply the update.zip on top of it. If you see any lag or force closes, you might want to wipe and then reinstall a "fresh" copy.

Man this ROM is excellent. This set-up is exactly what i need. Plus wired tethering now.....Makes it even better....

I wish there was a way to get some of the features of Koush's Cyanogen ROM incorporated like fullscreen browser, reboot option, etc. But having said that, I have to say that so far, I like this build better than Cyanogen. It is wicked fast and has almost everything I want in a ROM...again, great work!

yeah I agree but I also liked the 270 and 360 rotate options too from Koush

Also RE: Titanium, I never realized it backed up the messages

Fab you should get this added on ROM Manager like Jrummy's (the selection for Jrummy is there nothing beyond it yet though)

Not only the messages, but the POP3 email settings. That is HUGE for me! ;)

Yesterday I flashed 4 different ROMs (unusual...but not unheard of) and never had to touch my email settings.

+1

Not to mention that it is a nicely themed version of ESE81 and I tried to find a theme to work over top of ADC1.0 (Built from source, yet still ESE81:confused:) last night...couldn't find a damn thing. This ROM would probably be welcomed cause a lot of people would dig it. It's stable, simple, and FAST. Minus a few tweaks (that aren't possible outside of CM right now), it's a perfect ROM.

LOL 4 ROMS!!!

heck I might change once a week, twice if I have battery issues with a ROM

I liek Fab's might update to his next flavor, but torn, would like to try Koush 5.0.5.7 with NexTheme, but Fab's ROM has better battery life for me.. after 14hrs I am at 50% with Koush I would be at 30%. and I don't even use my Advanced task manager anymore, I might just uninstall it. But I need to find an app to show Free ram which shows in ATM

Yeah I agree, it is wicked fast. It would be nice to see the restart and full screen browsing features. I left cyanogen for this ROM, I haven't regretted it. Now this new Kernel is way better on my phone than Chevy's and Adamz

Damnit guys you are going to make me flash a new ROM tonight! /shakes fist!!!

Love Cyanogen, but want to try and see if I can get some better battery life...

Fab, My BB v0.8 has been running so well that I haven't made the jump to ESE81 yet -- but I'm going to this evening, with your "new goodies" ROM, because I'm hearing such "fabolous" things about it! :D

One question, which I didn't see asked before in this thread: your instructions say to rename to update.zip and install with SPRecovery. Is there any reason you know of that I can't use ROM Manager's "Install ROM from SD Card" without renaming and without using SPRecovery? (I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed now -- and I know it's not a big deal to flash SPRecovery, but if I can skip some steps without any detrimental effects, I'd like to do that.)

I used Clockwork just as you said, install from SD card, without renaming.. Worked fine

Thanks for testing with Clockwork recovery Jeff. I was pretty sure it would work, but I didn't want to make any promises :)

I'm still a little late to the CM recovery party :(

Thanks for this ROM, Fab. I'm really digging the themed MMS and the new notifications options. I haven't tried wired tethering yet but I will soon.

Thanks again.

No problem, I should add it was for Version1, I have not installed the latest yet.. probably will this weekend..

Hello all....I came up with a Weather Widget clock theme for this ROM. Hope you all like it.

Download: nex_clock.zip

How to install:
1. Download .zip file and save to your Weather Widget skin folder
2. Install the skin!

i cant get this to work. i put it in my data/beautifulwidgets/skins folder. it doesnt show up.

and also how do i get it to stop asking me to update to 2.1?

That skin isn't for Beautiful Widgets (although it is a beautiful skin!) -- it's for Weather Widget Donate, I believe.

To stop getting the OTA update, see How to stop 2.1 update notifications - DroidMod. As long as you have SPRecovery, that method should work even if you don't have DroidMod.

Good advice!

Yeah, I left otacerts.zip in cause of this whole deal with it possibly draining battery life.

Just accept the update. Your recovery will block it, and you'll never see the pop up again :D

thanks! bummer that wont work for beautiful widgets! are u sure if i accept the update it wont mess anything up?
