Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

I've seen a rumor that Google wants to announce about the same time as Apple, and because the expected Apple announcement slipped to next week (Oct. 22) that Google is waiting as well.

Also, PhoneArena has a rumor that there will be a new Nexus 4 released, as well. The have a rumor that there will be a Nexus 4 LTE, as well as the Nexus 5. The rumor claims pricing of $299 for a Nexus 4 LTE 16 GB, $349 for a 32 GB Nexus 4 LTE, $399 for the Nexus 5 16 GB, and $449 for the Nexus 5 32 GB.

It would make sense of that is their plan. However I'm not a fan of that phonearena rumor. That would make me a sad panda to have the N5 be 400 plus. If wouldn't deter me from buying it, but I'd be less happy.

It is an interesting rumor, will be interesting to see how it plays out. As for the Nexus 5 price, they point out that is really only a $50 increase in the price the Nexus 4 debuted at (since the 16 GB version was $349). Of course we, as consumers, never like price increases.

So true. I'll deal with the increase even better if there's no website crashes or supply issues at launch.

And that is an interesting question; if there is a new Nexus 4 (or even the old Nexus with LTE turned on), what will that do to the demand for a Nexus 5?

If it is just the old Nexus 4 with LTE turned on, it doesn't seem like it would do much. But it also begs the question, why did they sell out all the old Nexus 4's if they were just going to be turning on the LTE antenna? OTOH, an updated version of the Nexus 4 for $100 less might actually lessen demand for a Nexus 5 (depending on features).

One piece of information that just came back to me was slowly after the fcc leak, another document stated that there was sub initials. D820C and D820S. I wonder if that has anything to do with this?

I just don't see a Nexus 4 LTE selling that well along side the Nexus 5, even if they update some of the specs and up the storage. Google should of did that shit last year with the LTE. No point making it up to me now.. just give me the Nexus 5.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but I like the look of the Nexus 5 more than I do the Nexus 4. No glass back. No glittery shit. Solid black with Nexus on it looks sexy to me!

Simply turning on the radio wouldn't be enough for a large portion of the users. They would have to enable all bands, primarily the bands that AT&T uses as well as, I believe, TMobile. I am not sure which others were missing in the chip. Therefore new hardware would be needed.

I doubt they would turn on all the bands because it appears as though there's going to be 2 versions of the Nexus 5: a version for the western hemisphere (D820), and one for the eastern (D821). The only differences between these versions appears to be LTE bands and that the D820 has some CDMA bands.

One could fare with a 16GB with USB/OTG wouldn't you think??
On the other hand...$50 more for 32...WTH

16 GB is a non-starter, at least for me. And USB/OTG is really terrible which how much extra power it uses to say, play your music collection or videos. Battery conservation is bad enough as it is without USB OTG + Flash Drive.

16/32GB is the storage. If needed I would transfer certain files to computer or flashdrive, like backups, pictures, and files that I don't use (but need) on regular basis.

lol love it when people assume usb otg is some sort of magical answer.

it couldn't be any more inconvenient in most of my circumstances.

32gb nexus 5 would suffice, but if they did a 64gb version i'd be all over that.

You know, I think I would opt for a revised Nexus 4 if that was an option. I currently have a Droid RAZR Maxx through Verizon, and I'm pretty darn happy with it (I've had it about 15 months now I believe). The only thing I'm not happy with is my Verizon bill. I'm looking at switching to Straight Talk on AT&T in March when I'm off contract with Verizon, and my research says I can't use my DRM on ST. So that means I have to spring for a new phone. I'd like to keep my cost down, and an LTE-enabled Nexus 4 would be appealing to me.

Straight talk just added support for LTE, so that would be a plus. Just make sure you read their TOS carefully because they are kind of scary.

Just read about the usb/otg the other day, it did/does sound like an option. Didn't realize that it would be that much of a pain.

Don't get me wrong, it's good if you're on a long haul flight or something and your music's on a usb stick, so you just plug it in and nod off or whatever you do on a plane.

But the practicality of usb otg when you're out and about would be annoying. Imagine a usb stick, the otg cable, and your phone in your pocket listening to music while walking the streets :D

I don't see a company delaying a worldwide release of a phone because the US gov is down.

Its much more likely every site who was claiming a release today was just dead wrong.

I think I might prefer to get a refreshed Nexus 4 over a Nexus 5 since it'll be my smaller device since I'm keeping my Z Ultra. If it's actually refreshed and not just with LTE turned on I'll consider it for sure. If the 5 has more nifty features though I'll probably end up with it.
