Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Here's the strange bit, as far as I'm concerned. All blog chatter about the Nexus 5 and Kit Kat ended last Friday. Phandroid, Droid Life, Android Central, Android Police... since Saturday, it's as if the Nexus 5 didn't even exist. Considering the clicks they could generate with leaks, photos, and speculation, the fact that there's no mention of it at all lends some truth to the embargo story.

I'm looking forward to seeing if that Top 100 Amazon Reviewer was right after all.

What did they say again?

Typical Nexus season. Always running wild. Next week October is over. We should hear something soon.

The question will be does the S800/Adreno 330's efficiency cancel out the extra power useage of the screen increasing by 3" across the diameter and pushing 1080p vs 720p by adding 200mAh.

Will there be a livestream of the press release? Even if the Nexus 5 doesnt come out, I wanna see that if anyone has any links please?

There typically is on youtube, but hasn't been confirmation yet

Thanks!

Sorry to whoever posted this article: If not a Nexus 5, what's planned for the Google Play 'night out'? | Crave - CNET

But the article seems a bit off...

"he instant speculation was that the event could be the long-awaited reveal of the Nexus 5 and Android KitKat, but almost as quickly as that gossip caught fire, it was quashed. Word spread that there would be no hardware introduced at the mysterious soiree."

Android KitKat isnt exactly hardware, no?

I was thinking the same back a week ago that maybe the software side will be shown off. Obviously there is something going on though for it to be a delay. It would have been announced and shown off a week ago I think. It's become an Oct annual thing. Oct is almost up. So something must be up whether we find out or not. Just a couple of hours left if anything.

I think the variable that seems to be put in the shadow is the Nexus 10 tablet. There has been ton's of leaks about the Nexus 5 phone, but almost nothing about the new Nexus 10 tab. Maybe that's delayed and is thus delaying the N5 because they want to unveil them together.

They wrote a cryptic review saying that they would leave a more detailed one once the embargo was lifted on 10/25 for an accessory designed for the Nexus 5

I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed for political reasons. Especially given the close relationship between the late S. Jobs & POTUS, further bonded after their dinner together. Given the W.H. love fest with Apple nothing would surprise me.

I think it will be cutting it close. The biggest thing will be whether or not it includes GRAM. But I definitely don't expect to see a major jump in battery life. The Nexus line has never really been known for battery, and I don't think that will anytime soon.

I just need it better than an iPhone 4. I can get that, right? :o

Just think, the iPhone (the later ones before several updates) has always had much smaller batteries then most Android phones. But it has always had good to decent battery life. I know the screen has an impact, but when optimized right battery shouldn't be an issue. How everyone uses their phone has an impact as well. Some people have unrealistic expectations too. HTC One's battery isn't big, but I can easily get through a day with moderate to heavy use. All in all, I still wish it had a bigger battery just because ;)

Has anyone noticed it's almost 7 and not one major tech site has mentioned anything about the invites about the Google event?

Well the iPhone 4 juuuuust barely scrapes a full workday for me with pretty light use (often web browsing and a bit of text messaging with low screen brightness, WiFi turned off, Bluetooth turned off, etc. etc. Almost everything turned off including email push), so as long as the Nexus lasts the same conditions WITH email push as well as a bit more screen brightness and maybe a bit more intensive use, I'd be happy as heck!

Also, about the lack of google event mention; it's unsafe to Twitter and drive :o But I get your point... :(

I had an iPhone 4, the Nexus will be so much better, you'll be thrilled with you're decision :)

Thanks! All my Android friends are hyping me up saying "I'm gonna love Android" since I'm a big tecchie :)

I just asked Tim from Droid-Life if they were at the event/live-blogging it and he said:

"Nope and nope. As far as we know, there is nothing to cover. :)"

Hmmm..something definitely seems up :P
