Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Yup, it'll be covered under warranty

Well, for me it was NOT a black and white issue with the GNex.

The screen banding and poor quality under low brightness (newspaper effect) were really bad, along with yellow/purple tinting. And I had multiple verizon reps tell me the gnex radio dropping completely (as in, lose ALL radios until they re-init) was "normal". Finding one that had neither of those issues was a challenge...

Let's face it, part of the way they cut costs on Nexus devices must be in manufacturing or quality control.

I guess I must have just been lucky. Between my GF and I, 2 Gnex's, 2 Nexus 4s, 1 Wifi Nexus 7(2012) and 1 LTE Nexus 7(2013) that none have had any defects. I did hard brick a Nexus 4, but that's a different story entirely.

Oh you HAVE to share that story, even if it's OT!! :p
A bad kernel flash. The update script told twrp to write the kernel over my bootloader, and I was totally absent minded when I did it. So naturally I reset the device instead of pushing another flashable zip through adb to the device to correct the issue/reflash the correct bootloader. JTAG'd it back to life, so all is good. :o

Youch! I was going to say, how the heck did you hard brick a Nexus :)

Yeah, I'm the special one that did it. Could have saved it myself rather than JTAG'ing it if Qualcomm would publish the necessary software needed to flash the bootloader while the device is in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode.

Well if we get a bad unit we can send it back for a different one, right? :o

My first unit's touch screen went back after about a week. At that point the Nexus 4 were back ordered. It took about a month to get a replacement device. And multiple phone calls yelling at people. I was told various different shipment dates (2 days, 5 days, a week, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, and even 8 weeks). Nobody could give me a straight answer. They just pulled a number out of their butt. They told me they kept extra inventory for replacement devices, but they really didn't. So yes, you can just send back a bad unit. But if you want to send it back within the first week or two, you may not get another one for a while.

I have been hearing November 5th as the release date now. Maybe you can pre-order today?

Google confirmed the launch of LG Nexus 5 with 5th November as release date | Google LG Nexus 5 Specs, Release Date, Price, Images, Preorder and Review

From Wiki:

Android (operating system) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On November 5, 2007, the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of technology companies including Google, device manufacturers such as HTC, Sony and Samsung, wireless carriers such as Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile, and chipset makers such as Qualcomm and Texas Instruments, unveiled itself, with a goal to develop open standards for mobile devices.[13] That day, Android was unveiled as its first product, a mobile device platform built on the Linux kernel version 2.6.

Yup, they're basing that story on nothing it looks like

I really wish tech news sites would have some journalistic integrity and not just post everything they hear someone say . Anything to get more clicks

Its entirely possible it could be the 5th, but they didn't back it up with anything

I just wish they would announce something. I'm to the point where I need a phone and well not sure how much longer I can wait. I really like the Moto X but have unlimited with VZW. Should have jumped on the glitch with VZW when it happened.

<tinfoilhat>Maybe they're doing this to placate those of us ready to bail for the Nexus 5 :D</tinfoilhat>

That or someone's getting fired...hahahha

Let the conspiracy theories fly, that's what Nexus season is all about after all. :p

ok, allow me to go full mental then!

Verizon is allowing the unlimited data "glitch" to have GNex users upgrade so that when they announce they ARE going to carry the Nexus 5, all the people that used their upgrade switched to non-Nexus phones! lol
