Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

The continued silence of the tech blogs on anything Nexus 5 related really makes me think that the "embargo" is legit. We've gone how many days now without a rumor/leak after all? If so, then maybe the 24th is in fact the reveal. Well, only one more day to find out.

A little pricy, no? Lol

People will buy or bid up and past that price on eBay for this device. It won't be that high in the Play Store of course.

Negrielectronics push phones that high or even higher when the manufacturer isn't even matching that price unlocked. Kills me. The Nexus 4 was near that price unlocked if you didn't buy it from the Play Store.

It is pretty crazy how last week we had rumors galore and even Google leaked the price of the 16gb model, this week there hasn't been a peep. Hopefully in a day or two we'll FINALLY get something tasty... like a KitKat.

I was just thinking about how sparse news really is this week. I'd be more comfortable with some sort of invite being sent out. I'm also secretly hoping that tomorrow's event is more than their letting on, even though it's unrealistic.

The strange part is that my plan on VZW isn't over until December 8th anyway. Even though I'll order on the first day of sign ups, I can't change plans just yet...

Yeah this has been my theory as well. Only logical thing right now or else there would have been some kind of press invites because I'd imagine the Nexus 5 is ready to go. No reason to delay it unless there was some sort of problems with it but I'm sure rumors of possible problems would have leaked out by now..

Google's a very aware and clever company.

The absence of information leaks or rumors over the last few days may be an intentional decision to hang back and let the blogosphere chat up Apples event yesterday. Give them space for their gushing praise, especially in the main stream media. Just the mere mention of Apple generates buzz. It's the legacy of the ever so narcissistic past CEO, who baked it into Apple's DNA. You know, all that "Magical & Revolutionary" hyperbole.

Today will be the carry over analysis, tomorrow will be a new day "Google's Day" :)

A very good idea. I had thought of another: treat us like addicts...give us our fix to string us along for a week or so and then cut us off so we want it even more badly. All part of the plan to drive up the interest.

The withdrawal is really hurting right now.

All kidding aside though, at this point I'm just keeping tabs on things so I can see when I need to gear up for placing an order as soon as it's available. I'm really itching to get rid of Verizon after the guy in the store ticked me off last month when I stopped in.

Just to verify; this should be available in Canada the second it's available in the US, right? I mean, the entirety of North America is getting the product at the same time... Right?... RIGHT? (^^')

I think its typically an international launch

This will be my first release day nexus, so I may be wrong. I've always been a bystander before this

I would expect that would be the case, though supply may vary from country to country.

Nothing really in the past days. The calm before the storm. But how big will be the storm tomorrow or we are just getting our hopes up again...

Can't take this much longer.... need my final fix.....lol

So I guess that's the one good thing about being in my VZW contract until January...I know I can't get the Nexus5 right away anyway, so it's less urgent for me. Plus, you all get to be guinea pigs for those of us waiting to bail from Verizon. We get to see what manufacturer defects or radio/screen/etc issues there are and wait for them to be fixed or at least know about them at first. I went through 5 (or maybe it was 6?) Galaxy Nexus devices until I got one that a) didn't drop all radios constantly and b) had a screen that wasn't banded out the wazzoo.

So you're saying anyone who buys a device right away is going to get a faulty device?

It sounds more like he's saying the first runs of many phones can have higher levels of defects that are corrected as manufacturing continues.

That's generally true, no matter the manufacturer.

Obviously not everyone's going to get a faulty device, but the pure numbers involved say some will

Rxpert83 hit the nail on the head. Probably the vast majority will have a flawless device, but any manufacturer issues will be flushed out by the time I'm able to get one!

I'm on my 6th Nexus 4. I've had a lot of bad units. Or maybe Google just knows I came from an iPhone and felt bitter towards me ;-)

Well if we get a bad unit we can send it back for a different one, right? :o
