Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Yea, a few links are being shared again, but I guess that is all we have for now. I guess something that would make us all feel a lot more comfortable and not pondering when is if Google came out and said if it's actually delayed or if there is a set date. But it'll happen when it happens. Let's enjoy our weekend.

Does bowing ball in tweet mean October 28th launch for KitKat?

"When will KitKat launch?" has become a national obsession in the U.S. replacing "who shot JFK?" as the question weighing on American's minds. Ok, maybe that is a large overstatement, but with a number of industry sources expecting the latest Android OS build to be released any day between now and the end of the month, the question has become something of a puzzle.

As such, we have smartphone fanatics in general and Android users specifically, looking through every tweet, press release and news report hoping to break the code that will reveal the launch date of Android 4.4. And like those in the 1920's who used to believe that future stock market winners were encoded inside the dialogue bubbles of comic strips, there are some who have taken apart a tweet sent from the @KitKat Twitter page and say that it shows an October 28th release of the new OS build.

Those who believe in this analysis say that the three holes in the bowling ball represent a countdown toward the release of KitKat. Three holes equals three days to go. The tweet was sent out on Friday, so we will be on the lookout today for some image from @KITKAT that would give us a hint that there are two days remaining until the KitKat launch.

I'm at the point where I don't believe in any of this anymore. You could also count the 7 kit kat pins and would be released in 7 days friday Novemver 1st or count the 4 light on the ball and released in 4 days on October 29th.

Now multiply all those clues together and divide by the number of clues (3*4*7/3)

Is it just me, or does the bottom bezel look even bigger than the one on the Nexus 4?

I think it appears that way because the phone is more narrow and taller with a much smaller bezel on the sides. I guess we will have to see once it goes live in video or even better, in person.

Ya that might be. But one thing that won't help is the on screen buttons. Right now on the Google Experience launcher, the button area is transparent. Outside of the launch they will be black, making the bottom bezel look even bigger :-\

That is true. I think it's best they stay black or a slightly transparent black inside apps, because it would be hard to see them if it was fully transparent in every app. Mainly apps with white backgrounds. Who knows, maybe Android will go full gesture some time in the future.

From a functional standpoint it definitely makes most sense for the buttons to be on a black or nearly black bar. I'd love if it the navigation buttons cut into the bezel more.

Say, for example, the navigation buttons take up .2". Then instead of making the bezels completely symmetrical, like they are on the Nexus 4, make the bottom bezel .2" smaller. That way when you are using the phone, it will still look symmetrical, but you will have the added benefits of smaller bezels, larger screen in the same physical dimensions, and a symmetrical landscape keyboard. It's a win win if you ask me.

Is anyone else waiting as if Christmas is coming, except I lost count and don't remember exactly when it is, and whenever I ask a grownup, they say it'll be here soon? Lol tell me I'm not the only one!

It has it's similarities, like how it seems to take forever to arrive. At least with Christmas you have a set date every year rather than one based on rumors that keeps changing. :p

I know this is some people's first rodeo with a nexus release, but for those of us that have gone through this many times.. this is the game we play and me personally.. The hype and leaks and rumors is better than the release of the phone. Except the galaxy nexus! That shit went all the way into December! That's where I draw the line, lol but even then I waited.

Yep, I would agree that some of the fun is the hype and rumors. I'm sure if this device was going to Verizon, this thread would have become much more lively. I'll probably wait it out regardless, because the only other phone I would even consider isn't coming to the US and doesn't support US LTE frequencies. Won't ever go back to a skinned, bloated, slow updated, SIM locked, bootloader locked phone again.

Yup! It's Nexus or nothing for me!
