Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

From a functional standpoint it definitely makes most sense for the buttons to be on a black or nearly black bar. I'd love if it the navigation buttons cut into the bezel more.

Say, for example, the navigation buttons take up .2". Then instead of making the bezels completely symmetrical, like they are on the Nexus 4, make the bottom bezel .2" smaller. That way when you are using the phone, it will still look symmetrical, but you will have the added benefits of smaller bezels, larger screen in the same physical dimensions, and a symmetrical landscape keyboard. It's a win win if you ask me.

Yea, that does sound nice. But also they have hardware under there as well. The notification light and mic to talk into. Speakers as well are at the bottom on this new design like the iPhone. So it needs room for internals, but as time goes on things evolve. I mean the G2 has little to no bezel on the sides because of no hardware needed for the volume and power button. All centered in the back. I'm sure one day it'll be nearly all screen.

I don't think an LED light or speakers would be too much of a hindrance. The Moto X does this where the buttons cut into the bezel more, just not enough to make it symmetrical. I think it's totally possible, but Google just doesn't care enough.

White Nexus 5 And Possible November 1 Release Date Tipped By @evleaks

Would be nice if the white was available at launch rather than 6 months later like in the past.

Ha! beat me to it. It would be nice to have both at launch though. I don't understand the 6 months later for another color. People who initially buy aren't gonna go out of their way to sale just to get a new color. Horrible business choices with these companies. I personally don't really like this half and half though. I think the side band should be white as well. Otherwise from the front you can't really tell the difference between. Or even an all white one. I'll go with all black. Maybe it'll look better in person.

Update:

Then again, I could get the white one to be different.

Ha! Exactly. I love me some Google, but they do cut corners.

I agree that the sides should be white as well, but based on that shot it looks like the top & bottom might be white, but left and right sides are black. Definitely a weird choice. I think it would be great to have both available because maybe it will potentially split buyers up between them and allow more people to get what they want. I think I'd go for the white version personally because it gives it some flavor, not that the black one isn't sexy as well ;)

I'm really not sure how I feel about the "panda edition" white on black. Its one of those things I'd have to see in person to decide if I like.

Because of that I'll likely go black

Yeah, either make the whole phone white or just don't do it at all. Anyway, I prefer black or gunmetal grey for my phones.

Well if the white one is available at launch and everyone goes for the black one, I should have no issue getting mine :D. But in all seriousness, the worst thing in the world wouldn't be a delay, it would be supply issues like last year. I really hope everyone who wants one is able to get theirs.

Just to be safe and so we dont get our hopes crushed, I think we should all expect it to come out Oct 28th... 2014.

I believe Nov makes it an exact year when it was announced or released? Could of been the set date from the get go. Google trips every now and then, but I'm sure they would have made it clear if something was gonna go down and was pushed back.

After waiting though and all this anticipation, I hope the camera is of quality this time on a Nexus device. I've been spoiled with great cameras on phones. I use it often.

The anticipation is fun and all, but I'm just ready to have it out and trying to get one. I can't switch over until December 8th, but I'd buy it on launch day because I don't want to worry about supply issues. That part does kind of stink that you have to anticipate that Google never seems to know how many to make. Their track record is awful in that way: N4, original N7, Chromecast. It's like they don't know how good their products are going to sell. Ugh.

Least year, Nexus 4 was announced October 29th and released November 13th I believe

Once the n4 was out of stock does anybody remember how long it took for it to restock and become available again?

What ever date it comes out tomorrow or Friday, at what time should it become available? At midnight or at a "normal" store opening time?

It came back 2 or 3 weeks later, but they oversold their stock, leaving many in limbo until January.

I would guess 12pm est. Based on the Nexus 4,but who knows.

And how fast did they run out of stock?

Due to the short supply and high demand, the first batch sold out within 15 minutes. Plus the site was overloaded so most people got timed out while trying to cash out and lost the phone to someone else. It was a real mess

So in other words, make a Google Play Store account a week before if you dont already have it, practice your Ctrl+V skills on another product, and get frantic finger syndrome a few seconds before.

And add your credit card and mailing address to Google wallet via the Web before buy day. To make checkout go faster.

Google wallet is the name of their payment system. It's what you use to buy any content via Google play, but also has an extension as an app which allows Nfc payments to be made of done on a compatible phone.
