Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Update on the post from earlier about the dutch site having the release date as Oct 30:

Update: And just moments after we published this, the retailer has pulled the option to actually pre-order the Nexus 5 along with its release date, specs and on-contract pricing. All of this smells fishy and someone might be losing their jobs over at Belsimpel for prematurely leaking the next Nexus smartphone.

Strict rules over there huh. I wouldn't think they would lose their job. This happens often with phone launches. If they do lose their job, then they might as well leak everything they know about it. 30th is two days away and you would assume they have shipment close to it.

I wish I spent this much time actually working...

Ha-ha!

I'm in computer programming class and haven't done a thing yet. Can't do but so much anyways. The projector is having issues and delayed class. Over in a few minutes anyway. Only class today. So if anything does get shared today, I'll be home and comfy waiting with my wallet beside me just in case.

And now there's even more to the update:

Dutch website Tweakers has gotten in touch with Belsimpel and a clerk has confirmed that the store is indeed expecting a huge batch of Nexus 5 on Wednesday. ***End of update.

In other news:

How many of us are going to root this thing?

Count me in. Bootloaders getting unlocked as soon as its in my hand :p

Agreed, hopefully cm universal drivers will get the job done for unlocking. We'll have to see if the root binary needs tweaking due to the update.

Yeah, drivers shouldn't be a problem. I've had good luck with adb being recognized right away.

Just waiting on recovery.img and superuser compatibility and we'll have a rooting guide up

Todays @KitKat tweet is a photo of a KitKat from ET, that was released on the 9th of December 1982...

*Everytime I see @KitKat tweet and I have no clue what it means*

First thing I plan on doing when I get the phone!

I'm very eager to do the same. However I have decided to use it for a few days to be sure that it's all OK and trouble free.

Once that's done then I'll know if there's problems, I'm the one to blame...:D

I'm both grateful and excited since I will need the guide to educate me. :)

The tweet doesn't mention AndroidKitKat though... But there's one kitkat bar, what appears to be a "gun sight" where the kitkat meets the kids hand, but maybe that's a zero... eh, who knows. Lots of rumors that something was going to happen today, so we will see.

...and the target us zeroed on the human hand touching the KitKat, therefore today is the day where humans will see & touch KitKat. Maybe.

Does this tell us anything besides people are starting to get this in stock? Which means it should be on sale some time in the next week or so??

It tells us that it looks like white should be available at launch, and that maybe the nexus 4 will become available again in both colors as well.

So good chance there's an LTE variant after all? Hmm... I'll probably go Nexus 5 just because I know it'll run great for at least a couple years, Nexus 4 is a year old, but if it's 250 compared to 350 or 400, it's going to be an interesting decision to make.

If the 4 is rereleased with fully functioning LTE, that may be what the lady friend ends up with, especially if it's $100 cheaper than the 5.

Also, any word on WHICH big box retailers will have it? I'm hoping Best Buy offers it for the same price as the Play store. I want to avoid the shenanigans from last year at all costs.

Some interesting news there then. I don't think I would personally root it right away or even unlock the bootloader. I've been down that road so many times with earlier phones. It was fun and all, but as phones get better there is little for me to personally root it. CM is nice, but Other then overclocking and undervolting, I don't see any beneficial futures for my personal use. It's more so good for none Nexus devices wanting pure Android. I will have to see if developers can cook up something new.
