Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

I would imagine, though it remains to be seen how the Sprint situation will be handled. If you can buy it unlocked from Google then I don't see why it should be an issue. If you have to get it from Sprint with the usual CDMA carrier locks and SIM locks in place, then you might need to unlock it first.

This^ No one knows yet. I've read everything from a simple "yes, you can activate the Google Play version on Sprint" to crazy rumours like Sprint is getting an exclusive 32GB model with a 3000mAH battery.

Also, sim stuff could work the same way it does for Sprint's iPhone.

The right and perfect way to go about it would to sell it through the Play Store and supported carriers. Google controls it whether you bought it through a carrier or not like the Apple does the iPhone. Updates and all. That would be the perfect way to go about it. No carrier version later, or color variant later. All options up front on day one and continue through it's life until the successor comes out. It's that simple. Google needs to make their Nexus devices mainstream and tackle Apple head on. The Nexus phone is never recognized when people complain about updates and what not. Most consumers think Samsung is behind Android alone.

I don't disagree with anything you've said, but no one knows whether or not this will happen. We'll have to wait and see :)

I wish this was the case, but hasn't been. Up until the Nexus 4, there were carrier version like the Galaxy Nexus had 3 versions (GSM, Verizon, Sprint). Plus the white version was only available months after the initial launch. Hopefully things have straightened out.

^^This +1000. I made that argument once on the comments section of a general tech blog and the only rebuttal given was "They don't count, only nerds use Nexus devices"

It's slightly misleading because while the iPhone did give higher fps, the playing field isn't the same. The iPhone doesn't run at 1080p and is only 4" rather than 5".

You are right, performance is misleading based on the resolution. However, most GPU benchmarks are designed with one goal in mind, to show the raw power of a GPU. This is why most GPU benchmarks do their testing with an offscreen benchmark to show raw power. I don't know if that is what this benchmark did or not because they didn't say. But if it did do an off screen benchmark, it would show that the iPhone has a more powerful GPU. And with the resolution differences, the Nexus 5 would actually perform worse than the iPhone because it has less pixels to render.

Very true, just another variable that wasn't disclosed. And thus is why I hate benchmarks, lol.

I wish Google would make the Nexus more well known. Maybe I don't watch enough tv, but I've NEVER seen an advertisement for the Nexus line(except for the new Nexus 7). When I got mine and was setting it up, nobody had even heard of it. The only people who I know with a Nexus 4 only have it because -I- recommended it to them.

I remember one commercial after the Nexus 4 & 10 were released that showed off Google Now, and had a little tidbit saying "The Best of Google in 3 sizes", similar to their devices' webpage. However it had nothing specific to the Nexus 4.

Agree. Really odd they dont go mainstream like Galaxy or even HTC One. Really think it's a niche device right now with hardcore Android users. I feel theyd be a big hit with the price point and stock android for casual users.

Agreed, I've converted several S3 freinds to nexus devices. I wonder if they do it to keep the manufacturers happy, since google has moto (remember all the noise about samsung switching to badu when that happened?).

That would be way awesome, too. Though doesn't Google lose money on a Nexus or barely break even? It might be too expensive for them to sell too many units. Perhaps that's why it stays more of a niche device. However the N7 has had significant more marketing behind it. Funny thing is that I've never seen an ad for the N4 or N10. Strange...

I would love the Nexus to go mainstream but I think that will never happen. I can be wrong though. I'm not going to lie. While everyone and their mommas have Galaxies and Iphones, I like the fact that I have a Nexus. Makes me feel unique and nerdy..........and cool! Yeah I said it.

Lmao! Are you serious? I cannot believe that someone said that to you as their response. I won't even bother on mentioning what comes to mind about that. Ha-ha. Poor whomever.

Update:

Stream of Nexus 5 leaks continue http://www.phonedog.com/2013/10/30/stream-of-nexus-5-image-leaks-continues-to-flow/

Google already has a hard time supplying enough Nexus' for the customers who do buy them. If they went mainstream, it'd be an absolute nightmare to get our hands on a device. I prefer it niche, just as it is now.

They have a hard time supplying because they underestimate the little they only provide because they don't mainstream. Little supply isn't a bad thing. iPhone's sale out because of high demand. They come back in a couple weeks later. Google can do the same if they make it mainstream and focus from a business standpoint. They don't even heavily market their stuff.

Having fun with a Nexus 5 Fun with the Nexus 5: dummy leaking everywhere, 3D renders and GIFs result

I know it's just a fun fan 3D like render, but it looks pretty darn close and makes me want to get the two tone one even more.

Tomorrow could be the day something is said...it could be..(morning)

Update:

Play store gets a little makeover in the device section. Should make purchasing that much easier. http://phandroid.com/2013/10/30/googl-play-makeover/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Benchmarks aren't important but here http://hothardware.com/m/News/Googl...chmark-Among-Android-Smartphones/default.aspx

I'm not s fan of the new design. Yes it is a nice change but it makes it harder to "win" the nexus purchase challenge. Now instead of mouse click on the device I want I need to configure it. I can't imagine having to do this for the launch of the nexus 4. I was lucky enough to get one of the first orders in (I had zero issues or delays) but I can see this causing many more issues had it been this way last year.

Ya, I was one of those lucky ones that went and check the play store 30 mins before it was said to released and got my hands on a 16GB.. I had some issues with the checkout cart but I got it. lol With this YES I can see it being a pain!

Sorry I'm a bit behind on the Nexus rumors right now. Studying for midterms. I just got a hangout message from my buddy and he said the release might be tomorrow?! I thought it was rumored to be announced? Released Nov 1? Can't keep my rumors straight?! Awww! Lol
