Nexus 7 Buy or Not To Buy?

I've been reading on the Google Nexus 7 tablet and have been debating whether to buy one. I've never used a tablet just Android smartphones (HTC EVO 3D) and few others. My question to you current owners of the Nexus 7 is it worth buying or waiting until the new Nexus is released and then getting the Nexus 7 at a cheaper cost new due to the new one being released, or just getting the new version. I've looked around on eBay and seen a few Nexus 7's for about $150 in like new condition only being a used couple times, this was for the 8GB version which is on the small side as far as storage. Another question how reliable is the Nexus 7? I've seen some posts people talking about their Nexus 7 rebooting itself, WiFi not working, etc etc. Having a desktop PC and three labtops and smartphones in the house is it even worth buying a tablet? Any input on this would be much appreciated :)

I bought a 16GB Nexus 7 not long after they came out. A few months ago my kids dropped it and broke the screen. I just got another one (32GB this time) because I loved it soo much. If you hold off for a week or two, there are rumors that GOogle is going to announce an updated one at Google I/O next week, once they go on sale, the original should drop in price a little more, I imagine the 8GB will settle for around $120, with $30 increments for the next higher data amounts. Of course you could find a deal, like I did (my 32GB was $129+tax after rebate :D)

Well that would be nice but it seems the 8GB models are no longer manufactured, and can only be found in either used or somewhat like new condition on eBay. So I would assume the 16GB and 32GB would drop in price after the new one goes on sale

Well as the Google IO didn't reveal a new nexus 7 and being impatient I broke down and picked up the nexus 7 16gb at a brick n morter store. Luckily they had 2 16gb both of them were being held for other customers that called in but didn't show up. Let me just say I for one am happy and ask myself why I didn't purchase sooner. Thing is very snappy crisp vivid display and very hard too put down...I'll be ditching my laptop.

I asked myself the same question, welcome to the club.

Congrats!

I'm looking at getting a Nexus 7 for my son, probably (hopefully) in the next month, month and a half. I know nothing was announced at Google IO but that there are rumors of the next gen one. Anyone seen anything about when it may be released?

I love my Nexus but I sure wouldn't ditch my laptop. A tablet is extremely useful but it won't replace a full computer, at least not for me.

latest rumor is sometime in July. Google it, there are several sites talking about new info that DigiTimes posted pointing at a possible July date. I'm considering buying the new one as well. Especially if it launches with 4.3

Honestly, the $199 price point is great for a tablet. The new one will be that much and I think it's worth spending a little bit more for the newer version. Wait for the new one.

I am on my 4th Nexus 7...... to be honest I would never have got one if I had known what was to come.

First just died after a month and was replaced by the store. The 2nd 2 devices the screens cracked with the slightest knocks (I know that is my fault, but huge amount of people complaining about how delicate the screen is compared to other tablets). My current one has ridiculous battery drain even when set up exactly how the others were. Only difference I know of is bigger storage. I have had to turn pretty much everything off, no updates on any app etc. Even Kindle in sleep drains the battery down!

Also have lots of problems with apps. I would definitely have spent more in the first place and got a different product...in fact I am in the process of doing that now.

This is not be bashing - it is just my experience of the product.

Literally a month after I buy my nexus 7 I find out that a second gen model is coming out. I purchased a 32 GB model.

One night, I had that issue where the screen started moving on its own, but it hasn't happened since. Besides that, no issues, aside from having to wipe my home screen every so often due to lag.

Should I stick to what I have? Or should I sell this one and get the next gen?

The specs of the next one haven't been properly confirmed yet, so it's hard to say. Unless you absolutely need the latest and greatest, there's no real need. Current gen is fine. :)

At this point, best to wait. Leak from today:

Snap 600, 1080p and 32gb. Still if course no sd card slot.... It IS a Nexus.

I'm in the same thing trying to decide whether to buy the first nexus 7 or wait for the 2nd gen....the 2nd gen will have better specs and most likely will receive the KLP key lime pie aka android 5.0 update which is rumoured in October...

i got a 32 GB version and couldn't be happier! It has the Tegra 3 CPU and it's just a great tablet.

Thats a great Nexus 7 TABLET...but the next gen Nexus 7 is expected to release like any day. No one says much about it because its all rumors... but I am choosing to wait for the newer device...

I got my Nexus 7 32 GB from Wal-Mart reduced to $199!!! I hear some office supply store is selling them (N7 32 GB) for $169 new!

Hey, unless you are past the average age of death in your particular country, I would wait a bit for the new one to come out. Delay of gratification is a sign of mental maturity. I waited about 7 months before I sprang! I would also save up my money and get yourself a new Nexus 7.2. I just love my Nexus 7 32gb, but as electronics go, most evolve even better and I'm going for the new one when it comes out. Hey, I'm already 66 y/o, who knows how long I've got left... You go for it!!!

I took my new, 1st gen N7 back to Wal-Mart and got my money back, now it seems there's a 3-4 week delay from everyone on the new 32 GB N7 HD's. Dang, the wait! lol
